Emyr Huws: Cardiff accept bid for Wales midfielder from Ipswich

26 Jun 2017

BBC

The 23-year-old spent the last four months of last season on loan at Portman Road.

"I spoke to [Ipswich manager] Mick McCarthy and we've... accepted an offer and I think it's just down to the two clubs to sort the little details out," Cardiff manager Neil Warnock said.

"I think the player is happy, he had a good time there and we wish him well."

Huws came through the Swansea City and Manchester City youth systems, signing senior forms with the Manchester giants in 2012.

The midfielder joined Wigan Athletic in September 2014 after a successful loan spell the previous season, but joined Cardiff in August 2016 on a three-year deal.

Huws struggled to break into the Bluebirds first team, however, and Warnock revealed that the player dipped into his own pocket to ensure he could go on loan to Ipswich to play regularly.

'He ended up paying some of the wages himself'

"Right on the [transfer] deadline day I said, 'I want you to stay, but if Ipswich don't come up with the wages you're going to have to stay'," Warnock told BBC Wales Sport.

"He ended up paying some of the wages himself, which I found incredible and I can't take my hat off to him enough.

"It's paid off for him, because he's going to get himself a club and a contract where he'll be happy playing."

Huws made his senior debut for Wales in a friendly against Iceland in March 2014 and has won 11 caps, scoring one goal.

Good move for him, gets to play that's the main thing. Has talent but can't see him playing at any higher level, which is where we want to be. We get some much needed funds too.
Hopfully NW and the club can move on some others in the next fortnight namely, Noone, Pilks, Lambert, Fred, John and Saadi. Crazy to think how disjointed the squad got before NW came in.
Really pleasing summer so far

If O'Keefe leaves then we'll need two centre midfielders, one experienced and another younger.
Lawrence, unfortunately, won't be a priority.

He's clearly not in Warnock plans so fair enough better off letting him go. We really need to bolster the central midfield now though, hopefully warnock has got a few tricks up his sleeve to come.

Gutted. Good luck at Ipswich. Really thought he had a future with us. I trust Warnock's judgement though. I expect a big midfield signing incoming.

I'm completely with you. Total faith in Warnock but this could come back to haunt us. Don't really understand a world where Greg Halford is deemed less expendable than someone of the talent of Huws.

Well it's because Huws wants to play regularly, doesn't fit in with Warnock plans and he's happy to see him go.
Halfords plays a different position, is a utility player, a squad player and will be used if and when. He also seems happy with that.
With a fee for Hues as well it's quite simple really.

City wanted £1.5m so after agreeing a fee I would say it would be around the £1.25m

Cardiff City have accepted a bid from Ipswich Town for out-of-favour midfielder Emyr Huws says Neil Warnock.

The central midfielder made just two league starts last season, being brought off at half time at Preston.

Cardiff manager Neil Warnock confirmed that a bid had been accepted when speaking to BBC Wales Sport.

“I spoke to Mick McCarthy and we’ve… accepted an offer and I think it’s just down to the two clubs to sort the little details out.

“I think the player is happy, he had a good time there and we wish him well.”

I think it'll be a done deal. He took a pay cut in January to go there on loan & he knows MM is going to play him week in & week out.

They're saying a million quid so if that goes back to Warnock to add to his budget then I'll be happy. He's not going to play here so we might as well cash in & let Warnock get his targets.

as i understand it ,he is taking a cut in wages over this deal as well.
and infact has been offered more by other interested parties.
personally. providing it all gets sorted its a good deal all round..he gets to play for a manager that has shown faith in him..we get most of our money back.

I hope this one doesn't come back to bite us on the arse.
I think he's a decent player who hasn't been given a fair crack of the whip. This said ... in NW we trust.
