" Aron Gunnarsson Reveals "

Aron Gunnarsson has revealed who he voted for to win Cardiff City's Players' Player of the Season award.

Sunday 30th April 2017

The Icelandic midfielder has player a star role for the Bluebirds this season and is expected to be in the running for numerous awards - including goal of the season for his wonder strike against Nottingham Forest - at the club's awards presentation on Sunday night.

But Gunnarsson revealed he gave his vote to club stalwart Peter Whittingham who could play his last game for the Bluebirds against Huddersfield next week after more than a decade in the Welsh capital.

Gunnarsson's midfield team-mate Whittingham cut a devastated figure as he was withdrawn in the 64th minute of Cardiff's 2-0 defeat to newly-promoted Newcastle United .

Neil Warnock has previously revealed that contract talks with Whittingham are yet to prove fruitful, casting his future with the club in doubt.

And Iceland's Euro 2016 hero Gunnarsson believes Cardiff icon Whittingham deserves to land the top prize at the club's awards night for his remarkable service to the Bluebirds over the last 10 years.

"I've voted and I gave that one to Whittingham," the midfielder told the club's matchday programme.

"He's been a great servant to this club and to myself.

"We've seen how well he's done for the club and how hard he's worked for it. You just try and copy his work-rate and enthusiasm for the place.

"I gave it to him this time because I think he deserves it, not only for this year, but for the last 10 years that he's been here. That's why my vote went to him."

Gunnarsson is the overwhelming favourite to land the top gong at the awards ceremony and believes Neil Warnock is the main reason behind his impressive form this season.

When asked about potentially lifting the award, Gunnarsson responded: "Of course it would be a huge honour.

"It shows how you've been playing for the season and it's always nice to be honoured by the fans, if it does happen.

"I've just tried to give it my all this season and, since Neil Warnock's come in, he's given me a big confidence boost.

"It's been a funny old season since the summer I had with Iceland and after we started the league so poorly.

"That was a reality check and my confidence may have dipped a bit.

"But after Warnock came in, he gave me a lot of responsibility, I played a lot of minutes and I tried to give everything I've got in every game.

"I'm quite tired now and I'm feeling it towards the end of the season, but I always try to be consistent in how I play and work as hard as I possibly can for the team.

"There have been a few players who would deserve the title too, so I would obviously be very happy if I were to win it."

Touch of class that from Gunnars.

Probably between him(AG) and Ken Zohore for player of the season. :occasion5:

And from his reaction on Friday I'd be surprised if he stays.
On 13th December 2016 one man stood up to be counted against a pack of Wolves his name was Kenneth Zohore.
