CARDIFF CITY 0 NEWCASTLE UNITED 2

CARDIFF played well tonight and had the better of the first-half, but the second half Newcastle's class came through.

Well Done to Neil Warnocks team stood up to them and made them fight for 90minutes.

Cardiff without a doubt had their chances including two from Craig Noone, which he should of buried.

Cardiff: McGregor, Richards, Bennett, Morrison, Manga, Halford, Gunnarsson, Whittingham, Hoilett, K Harris, Zohore

Cardiff subs: Murphy, Peltier, Connolly, Ralls, Noone, Pilkington, Lambert.

Crowd 23,153
Away Support 4,800 Approx Newcastle fans

Newcastle arrived in Cardiff after winning promotion early on in the week and Cardiff City sat comfortable in mid table, this was City's last home game of the season, but it would also see Warnocks team test themselves against one of the best teams in the Championship.

Cardiff had the ball in the net twice, firstly through Morrison and then Hoilett, both disallowed and Newcastle threatened only once with great save by McGregor.

In the second half Newcastle's class showed and their goals were pure class.

Cardiff without a doubt had their chances including two from Craig Noone, which he should of buried.

But Newcastle's finishing won the day.

Could've been a different story had Noone buried that first chance in the second half, let alone the exact same chance he had later on. Don't know how he missed those.

Doing a double substitution right down the middle of our midfield was a bad call by Warnock. Newcastle made a run straight through us, leading to the free kick they scored from. Still felt Whitts could contribute to the game.

We lost against a team already promoted, with one of the best managers in the world. I'm not going to lose sleep over it.

The difference in class was in the finishing. Tonight showed that Noone has to go. Dreadful performance. Pilkington and Morrison can hopefully join him. If it's the last game for Whittingham that's very sad but he can't influence a game against premiership opposition so maybe it's goodbye to him too.

We lost a lot of points when Trollope was in charge which Warnock wouldn't have lost so we could have finished much higher.

A full season ahead and at least 8 new players in with the ones we know out and who knows.

A weakened Newcastle team is still better than most teams in this league.

I agree with everything you've said just one more thing take that Halford with them too.

There is a huge gulf between a team like Newcastle and ourselves. Newcastle are one of the genuine big teams in British football, and they were never going to stay at this level for long. Afraid this is the sort of side that we can never compete against on a regular basis. We are mid table because we are an average side at this level, and they are where they are on merit. Will always be tough for us when we come up against one of the real big boys.

Talking of classs or lack of it, what did Hoilet do again tonight?
Never hardly saw him all game. For a supposedly premier type offensive player he offered nothing.

The big plus for me tonight was Richards I though he and Bennet played well at full backs. I like Morrison as a solid no nonsense centre half although we will miss Manga.

I've always been a fan of Whittingam but it's the right time to say goodbye, he was second best to any 50/50 ball and doesn't even try and win the tackle.

Good luck to Newcastle in the Prem next year.

I totally agree with many posters on here, we had some great chances, but Newcastle's finishing won the night as their goals were class.

That Newcastle team was miles off their best... Gayle & Richie alone is over 30 goals. Not going to lose sleep about it but it did highlight just how big of a job Warnock's got on his hands and hopefully no more desperate signings of past it players like Halford!!!

The truth is,there is a lot lot of work to be done this Summer to be anything like Newcastle next season.

They have the best away record in the Championship, they conceded no goals away from home last night, they won two nil with two class goals, we had no pressure on us, we played well but remember Newcastle played a much weaker team and still won away from home two nil.

I watched st paulis game before the City game.. I wouldn't call it class. Absolute shit hole of a game, and they are miles away from the second bundesliga.
