Neil Warnock tips Reading FC for play-offs but couldn't resist slating the pitch

Never one to shun the spotlight, the Cardiff City has been at it again

Neil Warnock has tipped Reading FC to finish in the play-off places at the end of the Championship season.

The 68-year-old enjoys a frosty relationship with Royals supporters and often has little positive to say about the club.

But the Cardiff City boss reckons Jaap Stam's side will be one of the four teams fighting it out for promotion at the end of the campaign.

However, despite the praise for Reading, he still couldn't resist a pop.

Speaking on Goals on Sunday on Sky Sports over the weekend, he said: "I think it will be a good play-off battle - they all have different attributes.

"Reading have a problem because their pitch is a disgrace and they play passing football so that doesn't help them.

"Leeds have the fans, and Wednesday have the passion and Fernando Forestieri, who is on fire. Huddersfield have a great team ethic.

"It does look as if it will be those four for me, although I am sure Norwich will have something to say about that."

Runaway top two

Royals, Leeds United, Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield Town are the quartet who currently make up the play-off places but Warnock says it is difficult to look far past the top two being Brighton and Newcastle United.

"Brighton have built the club in the correct way, they have improved every year, even last year when they missed out they got over it," he said.

"I think they are the best team in the league. Newcastle have the best squad but Brighton are the best team."
