Cardiff manager Neil Warnock is set to be without striker Rickie Lambert against his former club Rotherham as the Bluebirds seek a third straight win after away victories over Leeds and Derby.

Lambert is struggling with a back injury and Warnock revealed the former Liverpool and West Brom player will see a specialist next week.

Warnock is hoping for better news from Greg Halford and Sean Morrison, who picked up knocks in the thrilling 4-3 win at Derby.

NEIL WARNOCK:

“One or two lads. Greg Halford and Sean Morrison picked up knocks. When you’re doing quite well everyone wants to play.
“Rickie Lambert is struggling, he’s seeing a specialist with his back next Tuesday.
“He went up to Derby but wasn’t fit enough to make the bench. It’s frustrating for both of us because Rickie needs to play to keep his fitness up.
“He hasn’t been able to train or do anything. It’s not looking good at the moment.”

A raft of hamstring injuries is not helping Rotherham.

Aymen Belaid, Darnell Fisher and deadline-day signing Carlton Morris are the men afflicted.

Both on loan at Rotherham ' Tom Adeyemi and Semi Ajayi '

Neither play will be eligible for the Millers when they travel to Cardiff on Saturday, with loan players banned from featuring against their parent clubs.

I wish, the fact that we put 4 past derby means more than likely this will be a 1 nil and scrappy match at that, hope i'm proven wrong and we see city come to life in front of their own crowd.

They can somehow manage to turn it on away so please do it at home City where I can actually witness it :laughing6:

It would be typical after having won 2 games which we couldn't see any points coming from that we slip up against Rotherham but if we do win this say 3 or 4 nil at home the team will get so much confidence and gain momentum that although I don't think they'll make the playoffs - we could potentially come close if we go on a winning run! :bluescarf:

Rotherham forced into changes for Cardiff trip

Rotherham Star

Friday 17th February 2017

ROTHERHAM United will be forced to do a body count before they launch back into Championship battle at Cardiff City tomorrow.

Striker Danny Ward (calf) is 50-50 while long-term absentees Aimen Belaid and Darnell Fisher may only be fit enough for bench places.

Injured skipper Lee Frecklington is expected to miss the trip.

Jon Taylor will play after recovering from a knock but there will be at least two changes because Cardiff loan pair Tom Adeyemi and Semi Ajayi can't play against their parent club.

Ajayi's absence means new centre-half Joel Ekstrand will be pushing for a debut.

Assessing the challenge, interim boss Paul Warne said he and the players had to be ready for a physical test against an improving Cardiff side.

“They are in a good vein of form. They're a big, strong team and they've got pace up front,” he said. “Cardiff know how we play and I know they'll be diligent on all our set pieces.

“They'll be hard to beat but we need to get our away form going and I hope our lads can take something from the last 135 minutes – the second half against Blackburn and the performance the other night against Huddersfield.

“We're low on numbers but we'll do what we always do and set the team up to try and win.”

The Millers go into the game, which pits them against former manager Neil Warnock, chasing a first away win of the season. They sit 14 points from the safety line with 14 matches to go.

RUFC - Ajayi Will Be Cheering Millers On

Cardiff City player Semi Ajayi on loan at Rotherham

Vital Rotherham United

Friday 17th February 2017

Rotherham United are going to be without, and in my opinion will sorely miss, Tom Adeyemi and Semi Ajayi tomorrow as they won't be able to play against their parent club Cardiff City.

Twenty-three year old defender, Ajayi, is disappointed not to be playing telling The Rotherham Advertiser, 'I've started to settle in here and got a good run of games under my belt.

'Any information the players need me and Tom know Cardiff really well and I'm pretty sure we'll be the first port of call.

'I can't play but I'll be cheering on the boys to win and if we can get a result and back to winning ways then great.'

Asked about his time, albeit only four games, with the Millers, Semi said, 'Woody (Richard Wood) is always talking and always keeping me on my toes. I can get him out of trouble and he is great in the air. We compliment each other well.

'Out of the four games I've played the Tuesday game (against Huddersfield) was probably our best performance over ninety minutes. We were disappointed not to come away with at least a point. Individually and collectively the back four were really good. We blocked it, we headed it and we cleared it. The team can be proud.'

Semi scored his first goal for the Millers in the game but admitted it was a little lucky. 'I'm not going to lie, my goal was lucky. The 'keeper parried it and it hit me but we'll take them. It was my first ever league goal but the three points would have been the icing on the cake.'

Rotherham manager Paul Warne takes his Rotherham United team to Cardiff where former Millers Player and recently Manager Neil Warnock is currently plying his trade.

Speaking to Radio Sheffield Warney said he didn't think Warnock did a bad job for the Millers last season (he kept them up with a couple of games to go!).

'I appreciate the unbelievable pressure he was under.

'In the first couple of games when he took over there didn't seem to be any change and I couldn't see us getting out of it. But he got the most out of the players like Grant Ward and Darbs (Matt Derbyshire) who he convinced was a left winger which Darbs didn't believe he was, He got stuff out of Besty (Leon Best) and Greg Halford. All the players performed very well for him regularly.

'I learnt a lot from him. I thought he was going to be a real hard task master but he wasn't he was more of a physiologist and they were laughing at his jokes, though I now know that I'm the manager that they have to. But he was really good for them and they wanted to do well for him but they were also a little bit fearful of him as well because they knew if they crossed him they probably wouldn't get back in the team again.

'What he did here was amazing.'

Cardiff v Rotherham Sky preview

17/02/17

Cardiff manager Neil Warnock is set to be without striker Rickie Lambert against his former club Rotherham as the Bluebirds seek a third straight win after away victories over Leeds and Derby.

Lambert is struggling with a back injury and Warnock revealed the former Liverpool and West Brom player will see a specialist next week.

Warnock is hoping for better news from Greg Halford and Sean Morrison, who picked up knocks in the thrilling 4-3 win at Derby.

Cardiff duo Tom Adeyemi and Semi Ajayi are currently on loan at Rotherham but will not be eligible to face their parent club.

Joel Ekstrand is still awaiting his debut for bottom-of-the-table Rotherham and may come into contention after spending the Millers' last two matches on the bench.

The Swedish defender was not used again on Tuesday when Paul Warne's men - cast adrift by 12 points and facing near certain relegation already - led twice before suffering a hammer blow as in-form Huddersfield grabbed the winning goal deep into injury-time.

A raft of hamstring injuries is not helping Rotherham.

Aymen Belaid, Darnell Fisher and deadline-day signing Carlton Morris are the men afflicted.
