Joe Bennett has revealed what it's like to play under Neil Warnock and alongside everyone's new favourite defender, the 'massive' Sol Bamba.

Bennett was brought into the club just days before the transfer window shut as Paul Trollope looked to replace the speed and attacking verve of Fabio.

However, a calf injury kept the 26-year-old on the sidelines as the Bluebirds' season rapidly began to unravel.

Bennett former Aston Villa man has made a real impression with three assured performances at left-back. Kieran Richardson was signed to push for his position but Bennett is very much the man in possession at the moment.

Bennett has been quick to hail the influence of his new manager and the new cult hero at the heart of the defence, Sol Bamba.

He said: "You can see the size of him [Bamba], he's a massive, massive guy. He talks well and he organises everyone on the pitch, he's good to play with. He talks you through the game and was rock solid again tonight, he's had a good week.


"If you've got a good top quality defender in there next to you then you're going to learn from him, he's played in this division for a long time and knows what it's about.

"I thought we were comfortable [against Forest], we had to defend in the first 20 minutes because we were under the cosh a little bit but we did that well, with Moz and Bamba in there, they were rock solid tonight and I think we deserved that win."

Bennett has been part of a much improved defence over the last week, frustratingly not quite able to keep a clean sheet but largely keeping three vibrant Championship attacks at bay.

For Bennett, that is all about Warnock's superb tutelage. It has given the players belief that they can win any game, even with some daunting fixtures ahead.

He said: "We're just really hard to beat now, we're set up well as unit, everyone knows what they're doing. We work really well off the ball and everyone talks to each other. We're getting goals on the counter-attack too, you've seen that with our goals here [against Forest].

"It's about confidence, if you put a string of results together you'll gain confidence from that. We've had a really good week and hopefully we can get another win next weekend.

"How we're playing now, how we're set up now, we can go anywhere, even Newcastle away. We can give them a good game and show what Cardiff City can do. It's such an unpredictable division, a lot of teams can beat anyone, we can go to Newcastle, Villa and get a result."

Honestly this lad could be one of the best wing backs in the league giving a decent run of games.

Its absolutely brilliant to hear another City player coming out saying how Warnock has instilled belief.

Thought Bennett has been excellent in the three games I have seen. Not sure what Ratcliffe was watching. Was he confused with Connolly who looked a bit ropey and seemed to be out of position a lot.

Radcliffe was one of Wales' s best ever defenders and was our key defender when we got promotion when he was an old man so I think he knows a lot more about defending than anyone on this forum?

bennett looks an excellent prospect. he is already a superior player to the player he replaced effectively, scott malone. credit goes to trollope for bringing him in.

Looks a great player will improve as the games go on.

Olli gunner was a great striker and a great player and was the worst manager ever here so Ratcliffe might have been a good player means shit as he talks a lot of crap when I hear him
