Cardiff could change their season with a win against Derby.

Cardiff City have the opportunity to change the focus of their season in a pivotal meeting with strugglers Derby County.

It has been a disappointing start to the season for the Bluebirds with an unexpected poor return of just two wins in nine games, but after beating Rotherham on the weekend, their fortunes could turn with a second successive win on Tuesday.

Cardiff welcome Derby to the Cardiff City Stadium and with the Rams enduring an even worse start to the campaign, the home side have every chance of making it back-to-back wins for the first time this season.

Tuesday evening’s clash sees two under pressure mangers lock horns but Paul Trollope will know that if he can take three points then he will have steered Cardiff clear of the relegation zone and will have eased any pressure from the board room. Another win for Cardiff would take them onto 11 points and into the main bulk of the Championship.

It will be no easy win for Cardiff however as the Rams will be desperate to get back on-track having won just once this season. A home loss to Blackburn Rovers at the weekend set the alarm bells ringing once more and Nigel Pearson knows he is under real pressure.

A Derby win could have a contrasting effect for Cardiff and a third consecutive home defeat may see Trollope leave his position as Head Coach. Fine margins for sure, but there is a real feeling in the Cardiff fan base that another home loss will bring realization there is little hope for this campaign.

The home side simply cannot afford to lose this one and anything less than a win may see the players leave the pitch to a chorus of boos for the third consecutive home fixture.

The Cardiff City Stadium was a real force last season with the Bluebirds having one of the best home records in the division and such a stark contrast this term has seen supporters turn.

If Trollope can find the formula to last season's home success then he does have a serious chance of winning supporters over however, and a win on Tuesday would be pivotal to the season.

Cardiff will have another opportunity to extend their run if they beat Derby with a trip to the Rams’ neighbours Burton on the weekend. Burton are no push-overs and they have proven that since promotion to the Championship but if Cardiff truly have ambitions of making the top-end of the table, they have to start proving their potency.

Everyone involved in the Championship knows what a string of wins can do for a team and Cardiff have to play without fear in the next two games, and go for that run of results to give them the opportunity to change the focus of their season. Whether they do so or not may define their season.

It's true that a second win on the bounce could really turn things around for us. While a defeat is likely to put us exactly where we were before the weekend's fixtures.

Unfortunately I'd say the latter is more likely.

Historically we love helping teams end their bad runs.
I've lost count of the managers, who faced the sack ,until they met us.
