At least we have a semi decent defence. Hard to replace Marshall but hopefully he will do well.

What Is The Squawka Player Performance Score?

The Performance Score is a measure of a player’s ability to positively influence a game of football. The more positive influence you have on the ball, the higher your Performance Score. The more negative influence, the lower your performance score.

The Performance Score is an advanced algorithm that takes every recorded on-ball action on the football pitch, evaluates its outcome, pitch co-ordinates, playing position of the player and the preceding event.

So how does it work?

In simple terms, the algorithm takes each on-pitch action, processes it and allocates it a score. The performance score simply adds all these scores together.

The Performance Score is broken down into 3 components; attack, defence and possession. The attack aspect takes all the attacking events into consideration (shots, crosses, take-ons, etc…)

The defence aspect scores defensive actions (e.g tackles, interceptions, etc.) The possession component scores passes, through-balls, etc…

The algorithm scores each event independently. Each on-ball action has a base score, this score is then multiplied by an Execution Qualifier, Outcome Qualifier, Player Qualifier and Area Qualifier.

Actions: 28 types Including passes, shots, saves, take-ons, clearances, fouls, tackles, cards, interceptions, blocks, key passes etc.

Execution: 942 Combinations Left foot, right foot ,head, swerving, strong, weak, volley, half volley, long ball, through ball, set piece, assist, length of pass, individual skill, flick on, forward, backward etc.

Outcomes: 2 Possibilities Success / Failed

Players: 4 Types Goalkeeper, Defender, Midfielder, Forward

Pitch Areas: 13

pitchareas

The overall outcome is an algorithm calculated using over 500,000,000 data points.

Players who have had an average game over 90 minutes can expect a score of between 10 and 20 points. A minus score indicates a poor game and a score over 50 shows the player is performing well.

Unlike most rating systems, which give scores out of 10, there is no limit to how many points a player can score (positively or negatively) on the Squawka Player Performance ratings system. They are as good, or as bad as their involvement, influence and skill allows.

Where do we get our Data from?

We get our data from the Premier League’s official data provider Opta. We receive feeds that are delivered to Squawka live in-game. We then process these feeds and extract the data. This data is then fed into the Performance Score Algorithm and processed in our live match centres in real-time.

Development of the Squawka Performance Score

The Performance score was first developed in the summer of 2011 and is constantly evolving with the growing data set we obtain.

It’s currently on its second version that was developed in the summer of 2013 after looking at 1,826 games from Europe’s top 5 leagues from the 2012/2013 season.

I think Ben has obviously got big shoes to fill but he is a decent budget replacement. Hopefully he will only get better in his time at City! :ayatollah:

A big IF, but Ben Amos was touted as a future England keeper not so long ago. Marshy has been fantastic for this club but arguably nowhere near as good the last couple of years as he has been. Stats are misleading but Amos was relegated to league one as was Marshall. If it means we get a couple of game changers then so be it, as someone else mentioned our keeper has been good but not great for a couple of years so embrace it!!!! Gut feeling though is fire sale is happening in advance of a sale or worse.

Ben Amos was highly regarded at Manchester United. Left for first team football.

Obviously more to the story of him being dropped to second choice at Bolton. Looks like he was forced out.

Should be good for us with a decent defence in front of him

Good point on Marshall being relegated, no one was particularly enamoured when he signed for us in the first place.

To be honest, IF Marshall goes, it'll be no surprise to anyone. Great keeper, excellent servant to the club and stuck around when many others ran after relegation. If it is £5M, then good business.

Ben Amos has looked pretty decent qhen ive seen him play. You can't compare stats from a relegated player to a top half of the table player, there is the whole team to take into account with that.

Either way Ben Amos is a good keeper just like Marshall was when he joined. He onlu became excellent after he was here for a while. Lets see if Ben does the same.

Thats fair comment plus anywhere near 5 million is good business! I think his best days are behind him and we have put a talented young player with potential in his place. We cant really judge him based on those stats as you say because there are too many variables.

What would you rather, Tan throws 40 million at it or we try and plan for the future. We still have a strong team with new players a new manager and some fresh ideas. All we need is a bit more firepower up front and we could be dark horses in this division.

Its not all doom and gloom yet we still could do very well this season and if we dont then hopefully we will be stronger next season. :bluebird: :ayatollah:

Seen and heard over the years that he was touted as a future england number 1. Obvs had to leave Man Utd for 1st team action but encouraging we've signed a quality player to replace Moore. Not sure he's the man to replace Marshall but only time will tell
