CITY’S CONTRACT SITUATION

The Daily Mirror reports Pep Guardiola’s transfer plans are being hampered by the contract status of several Man City fringe players.

City have seven players entering the final year of contracts – Yaya Toure, Fernandinho, Pablo Zabaleta, Gael Clichy, Jesus Navas, Bacary Sagna and Willy Caballero – many of whom are prime candidates to sell in order to bolster Guardiola’s transfer kitty.

But because many are on big wages and due loyalty bonuses for completing their deals, City are finding it difficult to move them on.

MARADONA HURT BY HIGUAIN MOVE

Argentina legend Diego Maradona has expressed his sadness that Gonzalo Higuain could be leaving Napoli for Juventus but blamed "fat cats of business" for the move.

Sky Italy reported that Napoli striker Higuain had undergone a medical with officials from Juventus and had agreed a deal to join the club. Napoli and Juventus remain in negotiations about a potential deal for the 28-year-old Argentina international, with the buyout clause at almost £79m.

Writing on his official Facebook page, Maradona, who won two titles with Napoli, was particularly upset that his compatriot would be leaving the club for a rival Serie A side.

"This Higuain affair is hurting me because he is going to a direct rival like Juventus," he wrote. "But we cannot blame the player either. A player has a responsibility to himself and it is those fat cats of business that are grinning the most in this case. Nobody thinks of the fan."

Joe Allen set for Stoke medical - Reports

25/07/16

Joe Allen is due to have a medical with Stoke City after agreeing personal terms with The Potters.

The Liverpool Echo expect the Welshman to complete a £13 million move today, meaning the Swans would miss out on one of their top transfer targets.

Swansea saw an £8 million bid for the 25-year-old rejected earlier this summer and it is now believed that Allen has agreed personal terms with Mark Hughes’ side.

Last week, Swans chairman Huw Jenkins insisted that the club were still in the hunt to secure a Liberty homecoming for the former fan favourite but that seems a long way off at this stage.

N’JIE MOVING DESPITE INJURY

Tottenham forward Clinton N'Jie is still expected to join Marseille on a season-long loan despite picking up a calf injury.

Sky sources understand the 22-year-old, who joined Spurs from Lyon last summer, completed a medical with the Ligue 1 club over the weekend but is currently waiting on the renewal of his working visa in France.

The delay has also held up the £10.8m move of young Marseille winger George Kevin N'Koudou to White Hart Lane, which has all been agreed.

N'Jie's absence from the club’s pre-season tour of Australia was down to a knock, which is understood to be a slight calf muscle problem that will sideline him for about 10 days but not affect his potential move.
