Hull City are reportedly interested in signing David Marshall from Cardiff City in the summer transfer window.

Friday 15th July 2015

Hull City are interested in signing David Marshall from Cardiff City in the summer transfer window, according to The Sun (print edition, page 57, July 15, 2016).

It has been reported by the British tabloid that Hull are lining up a £6 million bid for the 31-year-old goalkeeper.

The Tigers are looking at Marshall in the wake of the long-term injury suffered by Allan McGregor, according to the report.

Goalkeeper McGregor, who is 34 years of age, has been ruled out of action for six months, claims The Sun.

Marshall has been on the books of Cardiff since 2009 and has a contract with the Bluebirds until June 2018, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.

The Scotland international is a very experienced and able goalkeeper, and he would be a good signing for Hull.

The 31-year-old former Celtic and Norwich City goalkeeper knows the Premier League and English football inside out.

Hull will feature in the Premier League next season after winning promotion from the Championship via the playoffs at the end of the 2015-16 campaign.

Will we get the money to buy new players? If so, then snap their hand off because that's twice what he's worth. Nowhere near the player he was 2 years ago and Moore is a capable keeper, especially with a run of games. For £6m you get a couple of players that would score 30 goals a season between them. Swapping Moore for Marshall might cost you 10 goals a season at most.

A question to you, Do you think we will get the money for new players?

I don't.

Absolutely,if the money is used for new players then it makes sense.

If we sell Marshall for 6m I bet about 2 of that will go back into the team if we're lucky.I don't think Moore is the answer either but he may be the option we go with cos I don't think Trollope will be allowed the cash to reinvest

i prefer Ben Wilson to Moore. think hes got huge potential

Maybe a very small amount of it but we are still in the middle of strict cost cutting and I would imagine that virtually the whole amount saved (and Marshall must be on a good wage too) will go to reduce the money owed to Tan.

I wouldn't be surprised if they made Moore first choice and he's certainly not as good as Marshall so that would mean that the team, in that vital position at least, would be weaker than last season.

Can't see the club paying money for Wayne Hennessey.

Re: UPDATED " Hull lining up £6m bid for Cardiff Star player

I think if we have been offered £6 million it's safe to say that he will be gone.

Trollope may get half of it to strengthen if he is lucky

I don't think Marshall will be replaced Moore and Wlson will fight it out to be no1 (both have potential)...This is the way we are going younger and cheaper options with potential

Nor me. We've been here before, and it does'nt take a genius to work out Tan's long term plan. He is, and will continue to get back back as much of his investment as possible. There may be some money made available, but only a small percentage of any money that comes in from selling our more valuable players will go on replacements.

Re: UPDATED " Hull lining up £6m bid for Cardiff Star player

The money, if this happens, won't go on new players (all Vinnie the Red's subtle plan). No way should we even consider letting Marshall go till we've got a tidy replacement ,like Hennessey. Hull will be relegated next season, so seriously wonder if he'd want to go there anyway.

We can never be sure at our club but I'd be surprised if there is any mileage in a 'Marshall to Hull' deal

Firstly, this would cause issues come November when McGregor comes back from his injury; when it would clearly create friction between two very ambitious Scots internationally. Only one of them would be able to claim Hull's No.1 spot and the other would be restricted Reserve Team games and (by default) cast into the international wilderness

Secondly, if Cardiff City FC have any ambition for this coming season (and I believe they do) then that won't be served well by getting rid of the most consistent player we have had at our club for many a year. Moore isn't at the same level (yet) and how much do we think it would cost too bring another similar standard 'keeper in? About what we'd sell one for, of course!

Finally, Marshall (we keep repeating this) is happy in Cardiff with his family and is not actively seeking to leave the CCS anytime soon

Sven,

On what basis do you believe that the club has ambition for the coming season (other than to stay in the division of course)?

What evidence have you seen that the club is making a genuine and concerted attempt to get promoted?

My thoughts exactly, the only thing the club is interested in is saving as much money as possible without getting relegated, look at every decision since we let ole go it's been about one thing and one thing only ££££

It's all a matter of perspective and opinion...mine being positive and others being negative (often at all costs) ;)

My personal opinion is that the club would have kept Russell Slade on, if they were 'happy' with where we finished last year. But they didn't; they moved him out and brought in Paul Trollope. Some of us moaned initially (I certainly did) but what I've seen since has encouraged me. He had a great Euro 2016, he is getting the backroom staff right, he is shifting some of the deadwood out (who would have thought Malone would go?) and he is apparently looking to bring some positive players in. Jazz Richards is a good example of that

I guess we'll only see once the season kicks off but the early signs are that our glass is currently half full rather than half empty; that, however, is a matter of perspective and I'd rather turn up at the CCS feeling positive than negative like many so-called fans who only seem to have a downer on all things Cardiff City these days

I know I'd rather turn up at the CCS in August with an air of positivity. What's the point of going otherwise? :?

I often wonder why I put myself through it year after year. For the last 50 years I have turned up, but only for about eight or nine of those years have I gone down at the start of the season feeling positive. Unfortunately, for the most part I was right in not feeling positive, so at least I was'nt too disappointed or surprised when my low expectations were matched by what went on at the club. I wish I could share your enthusiasm Sven, but once again my expectations are no more than a mediocre season where a top ten place would be slightly higher than I am anticipating. I hope to see some entertaining football, and will carry on shouting for the team because I can't really remember a time that I did'nt desperately want to see us do well, even though those sort of seasons have'nt come around too often. I hope I am wrong and you are right, you never know this may be the year that they finally shock me.
