Wales refused permission to wear red home kit despite Portugal having to use away strip for Euro 2016 semi-final

Wales will line up in their charcoal and lime-green strip for only the second time at Euro 2016

Wales and Portugal will both wear their away kits in the Euro 2016 semi-final

Both Wales and Portugal will be wearing their away colours for tonight's Euro 2016 semi-final in Lyon.

According to UEFA rules, the 'home' team is usually entitled to wear their first-choice kit in any tie throughout the tournament.

For tonight's match Portugal are on the home side of the draw - meaning that, in normal circumstances, they would be able to play in their predominantly red home kit in Lyon.

However, for this contest, the Portugese first-strip has been deemed to be too close in darkness to Wales' charcoal and lime green away kit, and is considered to be a colour-clash.

We won't see them crumble if we keep playing the ball from side to side across the back like we have been. Allen has been sloppy as well, we are missing Ramsey big time, let's see Johnny Williams on as he's a busy little player that likes to make things happen.

Unfortunately this looks like it is as far as we can go. To have to replace the likes of Ramsey and Davies with MK Dons players is always the curse a country of our size will face.

This tournament will go down in history and be remembered for decades to come. The best finish at the Euros for any British side in history is something to be immensely, immensely proud of, and all at our first attempt!

Well done all, bring on the World Cup :tandragon:

That's that then. But what an achievement.

Proud of our team. Proud of our fans. Proud of our nation. Let's give them the heroes welcome home they deserve.

Wales 0, Portugal 2

Ronaldo (50), Nani (53)

CRISTIANO Ronaldo was the lion of Lyon for little more than a couple of minutes, but it was enough to crush Welsh dreams of reaching the final of Euro 2016.

Ronaldo headed Portugal's opener to become the first man to score in four European Championship finals – then followed his 57th goal of the season by inadvertently lining up Nani for their second shortly after.

For Wales, lacking their usual heartbeat and dash of quality, it was a disappointingly tame conclusion to such a terrific Euro debut in France over the past three weeks.

Both sides were guilty of a sheepish first half that suggested extra time and penalties was the extent of their ambitions.

Ronaldo's stretching header at the far post was the nearest Portugal came, while a disappointing Gareth Bale flattered to deceive when launching a goalward run before firing straight at the waiting goalkeeper.

It looked like handbags after the break, too, but in the 50th minute there was Ronaldo to claim his 10th goal in European Championship finals to equal Michel Platini's record.

A short corner out on the left saw the ball popped in at pace for Ronaldo to hang in the air and nod firmly – and all too characteristically – inside the far post to break the deadlock.

And for Wales it went from bad to worse within three minutes when Ronaldo's low cross-cum-shot left the Welsh stepping out and Nani poking out a foot to stab past Wayne Hennessey from an on-side position.
