Frédéric Gounongbe Will wear the No 9 Shirt for City
Cardiff City can confirm that forward Frédéric Gounongbe has joined the Club from Belgian side KVC Westerlo, following the expiration of his contract.
Benin-international Frédéric joins the Bluebirds following two years at De Kemphanen, having scored twenty-two goals in the Jupiler Pro League. He has agreed a two-year deal in the Welsh Capital City.
The twenty-eight year old centre-forward becomes Cardiff City’s second signing of the summer, joining Lex Immers at Cardiff City Stadium ahead of the coming campaign. Frédéric will wear the number nine jersey for 2016/17 campaign.
“Coming to the UK and playing my football here is a big challenge and I’m excited about performing in front of the Bluebirds fans. Having the club’s famous number nine shirt is a big responsibility for me, but I can’t wait to start pre-season and giving my best for the club.”
Executive Director & CEO Ken Choo added: “We would like to welcome Frédéric to Cardiff City Football Club. We delighted to be able to bring Frédéric into the fold, who will add to our already accomplished squad.
“So far we have made two additions to our first team, Frédéric and Lex, who will play a big part in our upcoming Sky Bet Championship campaign. Frédéric will wear the coveted number nine (9) jersey, and complement Lex, who has changed to his traditional number ten (10) shirt for the new season.

L'attaquant français Idriss Saadi rejoint Courtrai
Friday 1st July 2016

6ft 3" Target Man type payer, strong and good in the air.. good scoring record even if it is in a poor league.

Despite everyone's opinion on Kenwyn, I felt we missed a target man last season massively. Nice to have a big number 9 back in the shirt

Westerlo came 1 point off the bottom in the top Belgian league last season, so 22 goals in 45 games is an excellent strike rate for a struggling team.
I know nothing about him but according to Fifa 16 (the only thing I can think of to see what sort of player he is at the moment), he is very strong with good physical stats, good finishing and heading and average pace.
Also, he's only had 3 caps for Benin (scoring 2 goals) at 28 because he's Belgian, but opted to play for Benin in 2014.
This has to be a Tan signing, no coincidence that as soon as this new striker has come in, Saadi has left. Tan is shuffling the pack and doing what the Watford owner has done. Hopefully, it will work out well for us this season.

Welcome Freddy hope you do well for us
Newcastle sign Gayle and Ritchie we sign an unknown striker from a team relegated to the Belgium 2nd division doesn't actually fill me with confidence for the season ahead
Fri Jul 01, 2016 2:11 pm
After watching the youtube footage I will say he's got good movement and knows how to get on the right side of a defender however I can't see him getting anything like the space he's enjoying there.Perhaps that new fitness guru will sharpen him up cause I think he'll need to be fitter for the championship.

Welcome to the club Frederic good goal scoring record not happy with him pushing Saadi out though.

It will be a miracle and a first if this striker works out after all the failures we've previously signed?

Newcastle can afford 22 million on them two, we can't, simple really.
Poo pooing the player just because he isn't a name is why some Cardiff fans embarrass me to be honest. Give the boy a chance ffs.

I think every City fan will give him a chance and hope he is going to be a gem for us.
The problem a lot of fans have is all the names previously mentioned who have tried and failed and the money in transfer fees, agents fees and wages that have been wasted along with the time.
I think the main problem is our transfer committee of non football people but I agree the fans that compare us to Newcastle and think we should be signing players like Gayle have no idea.

Needs to hit the ground running really.
At 28, let's hope the club don't tell us he's "one for the future"!
It looks like Tan is relying on his Belgian scouts to find players for us rather than looking in the UK as our last few signings both permanent and and loan have been from abroad, with mixed results.
I wonder if Trollope had much of an input into this signing? I suppose we'll find out when we see who Trollope intends starting with.
Has Lennie started back yet? Not seen any photos of him holding up the shirt, sitting in the dugout etc.
