Patrice Evra Warns ITV to Stop Assuming England Will Beat Iceland
Patrice Evra has warned ITV to stop assuming England will beat Iceland tomorrow night.
The TV channel covered France’s victory over Ireland in their Euro 2016 last-16 clash earlier and spoke to Evra in the aftermath of that result.
Not only did presenter Mark Pougatch mention England ‘probably’ facing France in the quarter-final, interviewer Sam Matterface said to Evra that it would ‘probably’ be the English they faced in the next round.
But the Juventus defender wasn’t having any of that, reminding everyone that England still need to beat Iceland tomorrow night.
Asked about the prospect of facing Roy Hodgson’s side, Evra said: “It would be a tough game again, but you should stop saying it will be England.
“Just wait – they’re playing Iceland and every game they are difficult.”
And he has every reason to urge caution among England fans ahead of tomorrow night’s game.
The Three Lions have been far from convincing in the competition so far, failing to beat both Russia and Slovakia and only beating Wales thanks to a last-gasp Daniel Sturridge goal.
Iceland, on the other hand, have been very convincing – finishing joint-top of their group after a win over Austria and draws against Portugal and Hungary.
So it really isn’t guaranteed that England will be the opposition for France in their quarter-final clash a week today.
