But intensive rehab and close monitoring saw the 29-year-old respond well during the recent training camp in Portugal.

JOE LEDLEY could be set to hand Wales a huge boost by proving his fitness in time for the Euro 2016 opener against Slovakia.

Joe Ledley to prove his fitness for Wales and could start against Slovakia
The 29-year-old Crystal Palace midfielder had looked to be in danger of missing the Dragons' first major tournament for 58 years when he fractured his left leg against Stoke on May 7.

But the former Cardiff and Celtic man has recovered in time to make Chris Coleman's final 23-man squad for the finals.

And, having made good progress during last week's training camp in Portugal, Ledley could yet be fit enough to start the June 11 clash with Slovakia in Bordeaux, exactly five weeks after suffering the injury.

"As it stands Joe is in the mix for Slovakia, he has a real good chance," said Wales boss Coleman. "He's not a cert but the way things are going now, speaking to our medical team, he's putting himself in the window.

"That does not mean things cannot change, sometimes in rehab after an injury like this you can have a setback but at this moment in time he is in the mix.
