RUSSELL SLADE LINKED WITH JOB

THE WHARF LONDON

Friday 27th May 2016

Former Cardiff City boss Russell Slade is the new hot name in the frame to take over at Charlton Athletic .

Slade had two seasons at the helm of the Bluebirds but fans became increasingly disenchanted with his side’s lethargic performances and he was moved to Head of Football earlier this month and replaced by Paul Trollope.

Slade would be familiar with intrusive and erratic ownership. Malaysian businessman Vincent Tan became something of a byword in foreign meddling and needlessly goading fans in Wales. Whether this makes Slade perfect for the Roland Duchatelet regime or weary of it may be pivotal.

Slade will be familiar to Londoners as he managed Leyton Orient between 2010-2014 and has had spells running Leicester and Scarborough and Yeovil Town.

Another name warming up the bookie’s betting slips is Rochdale’s Keith Hill. Charlton have expressed an interest but it is understood that the 47-year-old has set his sights on the vacant Blackburn job.

The Valley club are looking to replace Jose Riga, who left when the club were relegated to League One

Charlton Atheltic have identified Russell Slade as the man they want to lead their League One charge next season, according to The Sun.

Cardiff City's Head of Football is now 1/2 on with one bookmaker to land the job.

The Valley outfit are looking to replace Jose Riga, who left after the club's relegation from the Championship.

Whoever takes the job will be faced with a major rebuilding task, with the fanbase still at loggerheads with the Belgian ownership.

Home games towards the end of last season were regularly blighted by protests both inside and outside of the ground.

Former Northampton boss Chris Wilder had been the initial favourite for the job, but he eventually turned down their approach and joined boyhood club Sheffield United.

Rochdale boss Keith Hill was then linked, but Slade is the hot favourite now.
