There are plenty of candidates in the squad for centre midfield but last season there too often seemed to be something unsatisfactory about the centre of the Cardiff midfield.
A lack of bite, an inability to dominate.
It seems Joe Ralls is a certain starter, it was a good season for the youngster and he should come back better next term.
More goals in his game is surely a priority with one in 44 appearances last campaign nowhere near enough.
Apart from Ralls the names are familiar, Kagisho Dikgacoi, Aron Gunnarsson and Stuart O’Keefe, with O’Keefe impressing greatly last term.
But you still feel the key man is missing, a ball winner with a bit of experience and an eye for a great pass.
The Bluebirds would like that kind of player in, they need that kind of player in, but, unfortunately, so does everyone else.
I don't think our centre midfield has been sorted since the Ricky Scimeca days under Dave Jones, when we dominated games with him and McPhail.
