Cardiff City reveal pre-season tournament plans in Germany.. but they won't be playing any 90 minute matches!

The tournament, with four games played in a single day, will feature Bundesliga giants Borussia Monchengladbach

Cardiff City have announced they will take part in a pre-season tournament in Osnaburck, Germany.

They will play against FC St. Pauli and VfL Osnabruck in the one day event that also features Bundesliga giants Borussia Monchengladbach.

It will be played on Saturday, 23rd July, with the Bluebirds' kicking off at 15.20 and 18.00 local time.

In a departure from the normal pre-season format, each game will be just 60 minutes long, with any games still level settled by an immediate penalty shootout.

Cardiff City's Paul Trollope should be able to oversee the games

It is the latest development in Cardiff's atypical schedule as they prepare for the new Championship season.

Their friendly with Shrewsbury Town, taking place on the 16th July, will feature four thirty minute periods.

The plan is presumably to prevent the kind of stop-start games that normally blight pre-season, as a raft of changes are made to give squad players a run-out.

The obvious question mark will be over whether the new formats can bring the required intensity to get players up to match fitness.

With the Euro 2016 Championships ending on July 10th, new Head Coach Paul Trollope will be overseeing the games as he prepares for his first campaign in charge.

At least it will be a little competitive but I won't be judging next season on results either way

I'm surprised we've not announced a mini tournament involving all his clubs for 'The Tan Trophy' :laughing6:
