THREE young Bluebirds who could feature against Birmingham

Wednesday May 4, 2016

By Jamie Kemble

Cardiff go up against Birmingham City on the final day of the season and with Gary Rowett set to give some of his younger payers a run-out at the Cardiff City Stadium, we look at the youngsters at Russell Slade’s disposal.

Going into the final day of the season, Cardiff have little to play for but seventh spot and when nothing balances on the final day, it’s traditional for managers to give their younger players a chance. Birmingham manager Gary Rowett has already hinted at starting younger players on Saturday.

We’ve chosen three of the younger players in the Cardiff City squad who could feature at some point in the Bluebirds’ final fixture of the season.

Declan John

John is an enigma for many around South Wales following his omission from the squad despite featuring heavily during the Bluebirds’ Premier League season. The Welsh international has completed a few loan spells, most recently at Chesterfield.

The young full-back returned from Chesterfield with an injury but he has now returned to fitness and is likely to get a run-out against Birmingham City on the final day of the season. A number of Cardiff City supporters wish to see John get another shot at the first team and this week could be his chance.

Kadeem Harris

Harris is another of the younger players who has seen first team football in the past after featuring in the second half of last season. The former Wycombe winger has made a couple of substitute appearances towards the latter stages of this season, including a late run-out against Bolton when he managed to win the Bluebirds a late penalty.

The 22-year-old has real potential but his time is starting to run out at Cardiff City with just a year left on his current deal. Like Declan John, Harris is one of the more likely to feature against Birmingham on Saturday.

Rhys Healey

The free-scoring striker joined the Bluebirds from Gap Connah’s Quay back in 2014 and made his first team début the same year against Chelsea on the final day of the season. Healey has completed a couple of loan spells but this season, he has been in fine scoring form as Cardiff City’s development squad finished third place in the PDL 2 South League.

Healey is unlikely to get a start against Birmingham with Idriss Saadi yet to be given a real opportunity but the young striker could get a run-out at some point during the game.

Annis, I think including these three (even if at different times) would give the attending fans a boost!

it's a nothing game so would be disappointed in Slade not playing a few young players to see how they get on

personally id start David Tutonda at left back and not young Declan. id prefer to see Declan on the wing as defence aint his strongest point for me

WOULDNT PLAY HEALEY BUT WOULD DEF PLAY JOHN AND HARRIS,BOTH SHOULD HAVE GOT MORE OF A LOOK IN THIS SEASON ESPECIALLY HARRIS WHO HAS PACE TO BURN

For me Declan and Rhys Healey but not Harris who may be pacy but has no final ball - could be why its taken him so long to get near the first team under three different managers now.

I would be shocked if he did!

Last game of last season, Forest away. Great opportunity to give some fringe players and youth teamers a game as again it was a nothing game but good old Russell stuck with the same old faces.

The only thing that shocks me with Slade is how he is still in his job.

Be great if he did. But I can imagine with Slade's poor attempt of a season finish he'll no doubt put all the 1st team players out just in order to save face.

Sounds a bit silly but hopefully if Birmingham give us an absolute stuffing it may just add that extra kick we need to get the boot in.

It will be the usual suspects.
I predict amiobee will get a full game as dikgochoi
Slade will try to go out on a high instead of giving youngsters a chance.
I would like to see

Moore
Peltier connelly turner John
Harris Okeefe Ralls if fit whittingham
Zohore healey or idris or Immers if fit

With all youngsters on the bench

Last year we had the chance in the last 6 games to try out the kids but we never did, so i dont see this happening in the Brum game.
The kids are the future if we are not going to spend money.
Play them with 5/6 experienced guys they will learn faster they are wasted playing age group under 21 games. If there not going to be picked we might as well scrap the developement teams.

Up until the Bolton game I would have agreed with you on Harris but he put in one cross that was the best I've seen since Nooney's best spell in the Prem.

Outside the full back sand an absolutely class cross into the box, just a shame we don't have a natural centre forward !!

Just give him a try, if he hasn't got it then we'll know after a full game.

This game is about ruling players out as well as in.

Fair comments but he has had a few chances under all of our previous three managers and not impressed. He has bulked up a bit though so perhaps other aspects of his game have improved too... I guess only playing these youngsters will give us the answers.

We know already that John and Harris aren't good enough. Wasn't John voted as the worst player to turn out in the Premier League that season? He played because we had no other options, and it was Ole who selected him and we all know what fantastic judgement he had!

Mind you, perhaps we should give him a chance now we know Fabio is leaving - perhaps John can be back up to Malone?

If Healey was any good we would have seen him before now. The fact that Slade saw Revell and Doyle as better scoring options says how bad Healey must be, rather than being poor judgement on Slade's part. We should put out the best team available, and the current crop of development players clearly aren't good enough. I hope we have a new influx of youngsters next year.

100% and bring 3 more youth on as subs.

However I expect a huge dissapointment in terms of selection and neglecting the youth as per the cup. I'm guna go with Slade choosing the same 11 that have underwhelmed in the last 5/6 games of the season.
