" ANTHONY PILKINGTON HAS DONE GREAT, BUT? "

Few Cardiff City fans could have predicted that the Ireland international would make such an impact over a prolonged period, up front, but he has done just that and proved many fans and pundits wrong, Cardiff City manager Russell Slade has to take some applause for this.

Over and above the goals he has scored, Pilkington has also become a real leader, captaining the side in Marshall's absence at Reading last week.

But the flaring of a long-term knee injury while on international duty has always been a major concern,Pilkington had the same problems at his previous club Norwich City. A fit Pilkington is a major asset to Russell Slade, so Slade will be waiting anxiously for news from Ireland.

The good news is,we have Tom Lawrence who could slot in to this position.

Anthony Pilkington has the qualities Russell Slade needs in his team to fire the Bluebirds in to the play -offs.

One of the things I like about Pilkington playing upfront is his aggression and how he constantly puts himself about and makes an absolute nuisance of himself to the central defenders he plays against.

I think Lawrence is not quite as strong physically as Pilks and I think he'd be more like Joe Mason if he were to play upfront - good movement but less of a threat to the opposition as he's a little lightweight compared to Pilks.

Lawrence has other attributes to his game but who knows? Not many of us would have thought that Pilks would do as well playing as a striker as he has done.

I'm hoping that Pilkington's injury has just come at a "convenient" time for us - you know, the sort of injury Ryan Giggs used to get before Wales friendlies !
