" IF CARDIFF CITY WORKED WITH OUR FANS "

When we were Walking to the Charlton ground last Saturday, we bumped in to crowds of kids with a few adults to every group.
We asked them what the protest was about today, as we had heard Charlton fans were going to be protesting and one woman replied to us that she was a Millwall fan and her old Dad was fuming she was going to watch Charlton and that she was taking all the kids.
She said but Charlton now give away 3,000-5,000 free tickets to the kids every home game, so we could not turn it down.
She joked, that she had her told her Dad that she would be cheering on Cardiff

Charltons crowd was up by 3,000 v City.

To be fair City in 1972, gave about 100 free tickets to my Marshfield Junior school and I persuaded my Grandfather(who had to pay) to take me and the following season we both bought season tickets.

Personally I'm not impressed with how City are marketed to the South Wales football fans.
We hold 33,500 and crowds and barely 13,000 are attending, once in a blue moon City do some kind of promotion for the kids schools, not enough in my opinion and that shows by the terrible attendances.

I personally believe 5,000 Free kids vouchers should go out to schools for every home.
Also ask for fans to come down and collect free vouchers for kids and they can distribute them all over South Wales.
City fans would love to be involved in helping their club get bigger crowds.
City fans would love to be involved in promoting the club.

Fans then come to the stadium on match days and exchange them for free tickets for the kids.
I honestly believe we would increase our home crowds by 3,000-5,000 every home game.
Also these potential fans are our future.
Revenue would increase in the shop and food sales and many might return, plus adults coming along would have to pay.

I wonder if something like the Junior Bluebirds would work again. Both my kids were members, had the Echo shirts, and felt part of something exciting. Maybe they could re-introduce something along those lines, and send the youngsters a quartely magazine with stickers and photos etc. Seems to me like the club and the supporters have become a bit distant.

Which is what we need because currently our stadium is way too big for us and a white elephant.

I run a football club ( 7 teams) playing female football. We have a good relationship with the foundation but when I have asked the ticket office for help in seating a large group together no joy. It appears that if you go off what the crib sheet states in the ticket office no positive outcome. We were looking to bring 50+ adults, players and siblings probably closer to 80.I feel that if I could have got the kids done for a fiver and adults for a tenner it would be a great opportunity.

I can't help but feel they are missing a trick in not tapping into junior teams, they are the crowd of tomorrow.

Use the new stand for free tickets for schools and say 2 children per 1 paying adult

Also the Welsh FA have got it bang on with kick back scheme. That would be brilliant for junior clubs and ccfc

You're forever criticising people for their negativity and then you come out with that ? I know it's a cliché, but kids are tomorrow's hardcore fans :bluebird:

Give free tickets out to kids that are not that bothered with going in the first place, then serve them up mind numbingly boring football, the result would be that you might actually put them off for life
The answer is not free ticketing, the club did fantastically cheap family season tickets and the result was that as the football got worse and worse, people stopped going even though they had paid for tickets, as the cost being so low, they felt no commitment. Most if not all those kids at Charlton won't go again unless free, that's no way to run a club. The last thing we need at the stadium is 5000 kids that are not bothered and what if the club gives out thousands of tickets and hardly any take them up? The moaners will soon be off, Cardiff can't even give tickets away

It's a great idea Annis. I even emailed the Club before the start of the season with virtually the same idea. The reply I had was that they had a lot of exciting plans to increase the crowds this season. I'm still waiting!!

The point was to get young people involved and build our club for the future

Taking 30 kids from my sons Primary School many moons ago is what got us both hooked. Started going to a few games after that and after a couple of years decided to buy season tickets. We've both been season ticket holders for the last 7 years now. :ayatollah:

Perhaps not immediately as there was no great atmosphere at Charlton last week (you have to take into account their position and the disillusionment with the owners however) but these youngsters are the future lifeblood of the club.

Get as many of them in as possible, show them there is an alternative to rugby and there is a real chance that at least some of them will become the next generation of hard core support for the club.

Charlton also read out the names of all the schools which were attending and put them on their big screen and there were a heck of a lot of them!

Heard the announcer on the tannoy at Charlton read out the names of schools, quite a few of them. There was something in the programme about it, too. Seems a good idea. Don't know if they all turned up, though. The official 16k crowd figure did seem a bit generous. Didn't we do something similar at the last home game of last season? The official attendance was 26k!

Still, a good idea, though. Get youngsters to games. Most if them will stay with us, off and on, from then onwards. :bluescarf:

Both my children were Junior Bluebirds. While my daughter lost interest as she got older, my son became a season ticket holder for many years, and a complete fanatic as far as Cardiff City were concerned.

If you give kids in schools free tickets to an evening game and give them a tour of the stadium beforehand, make them feel special, then they will fall in love with the City.

Yes junior bluebirds was long-term plan which brought some success! Not sure if giving tickets away is way forward long-term!

Kids go free every game, Up to 16years, 16-19 £5. Our attendance would almost double. :bluescarf:

New stand 1 adult 1 child £10 every other child £5 club as to make some money 2000 tickets minimum given out to schools near and far for free to encourage youngsters to follow the club

The loyal fan who pays for season ticket for there prize seat year in year out will not quibble over last few games of the season. All children under the age of 16 should be one fixed price £89 per season all three sides other than grand stand - with paying adult otherwise £129 Adults costs should be for all three sides fixed @ £299 for previous season ticket holders and £349 for new - 10,000 x 299 2990000 8000 x 89 712,000. 2000 x 129 258,000 plus grandstand level 3 and level 4 - single ticket walk up cost home ends from £20 upwards these costs just don't seem viable to the club every day running costs so however any scheme are thought of its going to be awkward :bluescarf: :bluebird:

Thats how my parents afforded for us to go mate, used to collect the vouchers out of the echo and then it was 2,3 or 4 quid depending on league position with your junior bluebirds card, made life long fans out of us

I got a st in Ninian stand but a mate of mine who takes his 2 kids sits in the family stand. I regularly chat to this guy and he was telling me that most of the kids in the family stand are doing other things than watching the game playing on tablets or handheld consoles which is quite worrying it makes me think they have been dragged along with no real interest in the games or football at all. I don't think the answer is another 5000 of these children playing mario kart on their nintendo 3ds all throughout the games!! Sorry but that's my opinion.

Some great suggestions on this thread, Just needs City to take notice :ayatollah: :bluebird:

A few negative ones from the usual suspects, who will always reply the opposite to what ever I post, if I post positive, they make it negative and if my topic is negative, they say I'm to negative but never come up with any ideas themselves

That's because you are old :old:

You know my thoughts the Club has lost total contact with its fan base. It's ok having the Family stand but that just papers over the cracks.

If they are worried about kids all over the place then have certain blocks within the ground that Fathers, Mothers can buy tickets with their kids.

I never let my kids take any games etc into the ground, they were there to support the team and watch football :ayatollah:

Spot on if my kids wanted to take a games console to a game, they wouldn't be going full stop, but everybody is different I suppose.

You want more kids at games though yea? Well I don't if alls they are gonna do is sit there playing their handheld consoles can't speak for every child and certainly not yours but it does go on, why are these children at games if they have no interest in it.
