Slade has only been with the Bluebirds a year and 125 days but is now up there with the league's most experienced bosses

They say the Championship can prove the graveyard of ambition and judging by the managerial casualties this season so far it is hard to disagree.

Up to now, 13 Championship bosses, more than half in the whole division, have bitten the dust, most often unceremoniously sacked, with Paul Clement at Derby and Neil Redfearn at Rotherham the latest to go, with both men dumped by their clubs yesterday.

The second-tier too, it seems, is the most unforgiving league of all.

More managers have gone there than in the other three English divisions with five having departed in the Premier League, 12 in League One and 10 in League Two.

But the changes in the Championship now leave one fascinating fact that might surprise Cardiff City supporters.

Remarkably, Bluebirds’ boss Russell Slade is now the eight-longest serving manager in the whole second-tier!

Since his appointment back in October 2014, Slade has hardly proved the most popular Bluebirds’ boss of all time.

His perceived lack of experience at Championship level and his style of football have been just two factors which have led to many questioning his tenure.

But despite all that, Slade has lasted the pace, guiding his side to five points off the play-off places as things stand while his managerial counterparts have dropped like flies around him.

Slade though has a long way to go when it comes to catching up with Championship’s longest serving boss, with Karl Robinson having been at MK Dons, who frustrated Cardiff by battling to a goalless draw in the Welsh capital last weekend, a mighty five years and 274 days.
