MCCLAREN WANTS TIOTE TO STAY

08/02/16

Steve McClaren has urged Cheick Tiote to turn down a big-money to China to stay and help Newcastle avoid relegation.

Tiote was in the side as they recorded a 1-0 win over West Brom on Saturday, and boss McClaren admitted he changed his mind on selling the player after seeing him play.

“Tiote has only been back training [following a knee injury] with us for two days but he’s 100 per cent committed,” McClaren said.

“If he keeps his composure and passes simply, he’s a very good player. I hope he stays now.”
