Exclusive: Charlton striker set to join Cardiff City on loan
Sunday, 22 November 2015 By Richard Cawley in Football

Tony Watt
Charlton striker Tony Watt is poised to join Cardiff City on loan.
The 21-year-old striker looks set to wrap up his move to the Welsh club tomorrow.
Watt started the season with a bang - notching in his first three games of the campaign - but has failed to find the next since.
And he recently exclusively spoke to the South London Press about his struggles for form - slamming some of his recent displays.
Watt had an instant impact when he joined from Standard Liege in the January transfer window, producing livewire displays that made him an instant hit with fans.
But the former Celtic youngster has been unable to scale those heights once his early season goal glut ended.
Cardiff boss Russell Slade spoke at the end of the week about his push to bring in a frontman.
Watt’s departure means that Charlton’s frontline options go back down - unless it frees up funds to make a signing before this week’s deadline for emergency loans.
Ricardo Vaz Te has already been brought in for the rest of the season while Ademola Lookman, 18, has also been promoted to the senior set-up.
Charlton did fail with a loan attempt to bring Yann Kermorgant back to The Valley recently - with AFC Bournemouth unwilling to let the French go due to a shortage of centre-forwards.

That report makes him sound like just what we need. A striker who doesn't score. :thumbright:

I would take him he causes problems remember he scored against Barca when he was at Celtic. :thumbright: :ayatollah:

Tony Watt slams his recent displays for Charlton Athletic
Friday, 16 October 2015 By Richard Cawley in Football

TONY Watt has produced a brutally critical assessment of his recent outings for Charlton.
The Scottish striker, a talismanic influence in their fine run under Guy Luzon last season, started the current campaign bang in form as he scored in the first three matches.

But Watt has failed to hit the back of the net in his next seven games and Charlton’s form has nosedived to mirror the frontman’s struggles, as they are winless in six matches.

The former Celtic man typically pulled no punches.
“I’ve been poor recently and I know I have,” he said. “Huddersfield was the worst game of my career. If I went right then I should have gone left, if I went left I should have gone right. I got every decision wrong.

“I was poor in the Rotherham game and against Fulham I was terrible. Ever since I got injured against Dagenham, when one of their players caught my calf, it has been in my head that I’m not as sharp as I should be. I was out for three and a half weeks and it was the first time in my career I’ve been injured.

“I don’t know what’s up. I can’t put my finger on it and I know I can be so much better. It is killing me and it is killing the gaffer. I can tell he is frustrated with how I’m playing because he knows I can be better.

“I’ve spoken to him - he has been absolutely brilliant in encouraging me. I think if the gaffer didn’t know me I’d probably have been off after 60-70 minutes in the last three or four games. But he knows that even if I’m having a bad game I can do one wee thing that will still help. I haven’t been doing enough.

“I set a high standard at the start of the season but there has been no middle ground - either I’m very good or very bad. I need to be more consistent and I know that.

“When it is going wrong you don’t get that lucky break. It’s why the international break was brilliant for me. I’ve looked back at what I’ve done wrong and had time to reflect. In training the past few days I’ve felt really sharp.

“I don’t think when I play well that the team plays well - just that if the strikers do their job it takes the pressure off the others if you hold the ball up or go on a run.”

“My dad always tells me ‘all you need is confidence, because you know you can do it’ . If I’m not confident I’m terrible - that’s the bottom line. I just need to believe in myself and it will all be fine.”

He's shit and he knows he is!

Honest assessment by Tony Watt there. Hopefully a change of scenery will do him good.

Having just sent a striker lacking in confidence out on loan, Slade now brings in a striker lacking in confidence from a team lower than us in the same division.

Well done Russ.
