Not really, we've always known we've played in the English league. Calling it EFL wouldn't make much difference.

They could hardly call it the EFL (bar Cardiff and Newport). Bit of a mouthful that. :laughing6:

The Football League have announced that they will be re-named the 'English Football League' or EFL from the 2016/17 season onwards.

The move, which risks angering fans of Welsh clubs Cardiff City and League Two Newport County, of the second and fourth tiers of English football respectively, is part of what is being described as 'a comprehensive corporate and competition re-branding.'

But league bosses have opted against renaming its three divisions after choosing to retain the titles Championship, League One and League Two.

A statement on the official website also revealed the fourth new logo in its 127-year history, which is in the shape of a football made up of three swathes of 24 smaller balls, representing each division and its 72 clubs, with each club receiving their own bespoke version.

"The new EFL name rightly emphasises the central role our clubs play at the heart of English professional football," the Football League’s chief executive, Shaun Harvey said.

"In an increasingly challenging global sports market, it is absolutely essential that sports properties can project a modern identity that not only resonates with their regular audience but is also easily recognisable to a broader audience of potential fans, viewers and commercial partners.

"The Championship, League One and League Two divisional titles have proven popular with fans since their introduction in 2004 and have since been used by leagues in other countries and in other sports. It is therefore our intention to incorporate them into the new EFL brand."

The official statement also stated that a thorough consultation process was carried out, involving detailed surveys, interviews and focus groups with clubs, stakeholders, commercial partners and more than 18,000 football supporters.

Don't see why it should anger Welsh clubs. They knew it was the English league when they applied for membership. Always been a "foreign" league which is why we can no longer represent Wales in European competitions. If the Welsh clubs don't like it, they can always play in the Welsh league in front of a few people and a couple of dog walkers.

Typical media Wales trying to make something out of nothing, we play in the English system so I really don't see the issue of it being called the English football league, really doesn't bother me

Hardly a big change, it's always been the English football league. I am glad they aren't renaming the individual leagues EFL 1, 2 and 3.

I suppose media Wales will interview one of their mates in Poncanna who has never been to the city who'll say its a disgrace.

We play in the English system, do we still get an invite every season or has that stopped
