There has never been any doubt about Ravel Morrison's talents and Cardiff City fans saw glimpses of it during his spell last year but now Alex Ferguson has spoken out about him

A year ago, exciting midfielder Ravel Morrison was at Cardiff City and the fans were still eagerly awaiting glimpses of his star qualities.

But off-field issues and a lack of form meant the former Manchester United man was rarely seen under Russell Slade and sent back to West Ham.

Now Sir Alex Ferguson has opened up on the heartache of watching the starlet's career stall since allowing him to leave Old Trafford.

In his book, Leading, Sir Alex said he gave the talented youngster “too many chances” but he “kept getting into trouble.

The iconic United manager said: “It was very painful to sell him to West Ham in 2012 because he could have been a fantastic player.

“But, over a period of years, the problems off the pitch continued to escalate and we had little option but to cut the cord.

“Sadly, there are examples of players who have similar backgrounds to Giggs or Cristiano Ronaldo, who, despite enormous talent, just aren’t emotionally or mentally strong enough to overcome the hurts of their childhood.”

But Morrison, 22, who now plays for Lazio in Serie A insists his career is still upwardly mobile.

He said: “It makes me laugh when I hear some people saying I’ve made a backward step coming here.

“Lazio is arguably, with no disrespect intended, a bigger club than West Ham.”

He admits last year was the toughest of his career, as he struggled to get games for the Hammers or Cardiff. He said: “At times I wanted to stop playing because I felt I had done everything right to be playing in the team.

“I started to dislike the sport because it seemed it did not matter how hard I worked, I wasn’t in the side.”

His comments at the end show he has no real comprehension of 'why' he has been released by every club he has played for, including Cardiff City FC

No doubting his talent but (sadly) no doubting his stupidity either!
