" Time to cut Russell Slade some slack "

Slade was certainly not the choice of manager of any Cardiff City fan when Solskjaer was sacked and he has faced a difficult time since his arrival.

Not only has the manager had to cut the wage bill, sell players but he has also had to try and win over a fanbase, including myself, the performances last season didn't go anyway to helping Slade but so far this season there has been an improvement.

This week, leading up to today's game, I spoke to many people and I asked the same question to all, what happens if City don't win but draw against Wolves?

Each and everyone reply I had was almost identical, ' the knives will be out! '

My feeling was that if we had drawn today, the performances have certainly been much improved to what they were last season, so it would have been unjust in my opinion to call for the managers head after better displays and not losing a game in five, if you include the cup win over Wimbledon.

The team are getting the ball down to try and play football, partnerships are forming and triangles of football are evident with more movement than we saw last season.

It does not mean we are world beaters by any stretch of the imagination but there are definite signs of improvement, a togetherness among the players and hopefully confidence will come on the back of these performances and results like today's.

If I have a concern, it would be the confidence of the team, I am hoping we can continue on this mini run we are on, as the team doesn't look like it is brimming with confidence but if we can get a couple of back to back wins, I am hoping that changes quickly.

What I saw today was encouraging indeed, even in the first half when we didn't look brilliant on the ball, what we did have was a good shape, two good banks of four that worked, for the majority of time, in unison. When 4-4-2 works it proves to be difficult to break down and that was clearly what frustrated Wolves today.

Not one shot on target for Wolves this afternoon is testament to the defending of the whole team.

Slade could have been stubborn today and kept belief in Revell but chose to go with the popular choice of Kenwyne Jones and it proved correct, not saying Slade was not going to make the change anyway but the fact is he did and who can complain.

Where Slade perhaps had a little bit of luck was the performance of Fabio, the Brazilian was simply brilliant today but Slade must have been gutted to lose Scott Malone to a sickness bug, who would have thought we would be saying that, as the left back has been a revelation in the early part of the season.

Is Russell Slade a good enough manager to get Cardiff City promoted this season ?

I don't know what the answer is to that but what I will say is, after the first five games of the season, he deserves to be cut some slack and given the opportunity and support from the stands in trying to do so.

Silly season is still in full swing. Cut him slack after 1 win in 4? A reality check is needed.

And if he had lost 1 of the five, there would be many clamouring to be the first to call for his head

And yes it is two wins in five with no defeats

No defeats in 4 difficult games! And 4 defeats in around 22 games? that's reality

And they'd be equally as deluded. Two wrongs or extreme reaction don't make a right. I will cut him some slack when there is more consistency and the side starts collecting more points.

6/12 points on offer won so far. Nothing to cry about. Nothing to get excited about. Its middle of the ground.

Best post I have seen off you, not that others are bad just hit the nail on the head! We have become difficult to beat, the attitude is spot on and with a bit of fine tuning and some more pace it could be a half decent season

2 wins and 3 draws is consistent.

2 difficult away games at fancied opposition, a home win against a fancied opposition, oh and a draw against a decent Fulham team.

And our performances have improved.

But there is nothing to be positive about at this moment James is there ?

I know he can't win everyone over but I am willing to give home the chance based on what I have seen so far this season.

I wanted to see an improvement in performances, I have seen that.

I wanted to see a decent return of points in this first batch of difficult games, I have seen that.

I want to cut the manager some slack, I am doing that.

We are not the finished article but I agree, if Slade can bring in a little bit more quality, then who knows what could happen ?

Martyn, I am judging the manager on the performances and results of the team after his first full pre-season and so far so good in terms of improvement.

The longer it goes on the better it can get.

I am not claiming we are going to win the the league or even get a play off spot but my view has certainly changed from what it was before we kicked off against Fulham.

I, and anyone else, can only judge on recent performances and not on what happened last season.

Agreed.

What an overreaction to winning one game.
As close to the top as the bottom three.

It's too early to cut Slade some slack...but one things for sure he's proving people wrong

If the current form continue's or even improves then the crowds will improve, not being on TV for a while
should help attendances especially after a performance like today, very impressed :ayatollah:

Luke, no need to be insulting.

Not an overreaction to winning one game at all.

It is a reaction to the performances of the team over those four games.

They have improved massively to what they were last season and we have gone undefeated against difficult opposition.

Wonder what the overreaction would have been in heaven forbid we had lost one or even two of those games we have been undefeated in ?

Isn't that a slight contradiction ?

Saying it is too early to it him some slack but he is proving people wrong.

Surely that in itself is a reason to cut him some slack.

Nope sorry, slade buckled to public pressure today, slade and Young should be gone, still too many basic mistakes, and is not a coincidence when you watch them in training, which is very steatite to say the least.
I am still not impressed with what I am seeing, wolves had an off day today, pity jacket was'nt still living by U.S.! Ha ha

Not really. The club is performing exactly as many have expected so far. Most people would have predicted the club would be in the middle of the table drifting up and down throughout the entire campaign. This is what most people expect from the club. So far Slade has brought us exactly that. We have got a pretty mid table points total in 6 taken from a possible 12 and that is that. I'll get excited and give Slade more credit if and when he begins to exceed those expectations and possibly gets involved in a playoff mix. I'll get annoyed and call for his head if he takes us the other way and gets involved in a relegation scrap. As it stands, its business as usual and things are going as most expect.
