" Hull City consider making formal approach for Cardiff City star Peter Whittingham "

BY TERRY PHILIPS

SATURDAY 4TH JULY 2015

Hull are yet to make an approach for Whittingham but that could all be about to change in the coming week

Cardiff City are braced for an approach for Peter Whittingham as Hull boss Steve Bruce weighs up whether to make his interest in the midfielder formal.

WalesOnline understands Hull are keen on the 30-year-old as a replacement for Stephen Quinn, who turned down an offer from the Bluebirds to join Reading last week.

The Tigers are yet to make contact with Cardiff but sources on Humberside say they could be set to make an approach soon.

The Championship side are desperate for midfielders, with Quinn’s departure coming on the back of Jake Livermore’s suspension for failing a drugs test.

They also sold winger Tom Ince to Derby on Friday for a club record fee of £4.75m.

Cardiff veteran Whittingham is seen as the ideal experienced man to step in having spent seven years in the Welsh capital.

Whittingham, who recently got married, has no desire to leave the club and is settled in South Wales, but the Bluebirds could be tempted to cash in if they receive a significant offer.

While Whittingham remains part of Russell Slade’s plans for next season and still has two years left on his current deal, chief executive Ken Choo has admitted every player has a price.

“We will keep key players who can help us move forward unless an offer is made that we simply can’t refuse,” Choo told WalesOnline.

“Cardiff City is a business at the end of the day and we will consider any offer on its merits, but we are not looking to do that.

“Whatever happens, whatever decisions are made, they will be for the good of our football club.”

Former Aston Villa playmaker Whittingham, who will be 31 next month, first joined Cardiff in 2007 and has scored 72 goals in 339 league appearances.

He has been targeted a number of times before, turning down the likes of Fulham, West Brom and Stoke in past seasons.

Keep Whitts personally but I'm sorry folks think Choo already summed it up by saying “Cardiff City is a business at the end of the day and we will consider any offer on its merits, but we are not looking to do that. Straight out the book of Tan

He has struggled but without a shadow of doubt you keep Witts! He's only 30, pace as we know isn't what he's about so has many years on him. Even if he's not s regular next season which he will be he without doubt is a quality player that once gone will be missed. I have called for him to be dropped like many but with super Kev gone him and Marshall are part of CCFC :bluebird:

Whitts has a contract until 2017 , be surprised if he would want to move as he is very settled in Cardiff , even if the club wanted to sell him the decision would be down to him
