Cardiff boss Russell Slade could move in for Hull midfielder Quinn, although Reading are also keen

Cardiff City are being linked with a swoop for Hull midfielder Stephen Quinn as boss Russell Slade seeks to bolster his squad in time for the Championship kick-off.

The battle-hardened Republic of Ireland international will make a decision on his future this week when he chooses whether to accept a new contract offer from Hull manager Steve Bruce.

If Quinn says no, then Cardiff and Reading are likely to be among the leading contenders to sign him.

Other Championship clubs are also said to be interested in landing Quinn, who made 28 Premier League appearances during 2014-15.

Quinn, 29, has stalled on signing a new deal at Hull and that has increased speculation he may be on the move over the next week or so.

Having previously played for Sheffield United, MK Dons and Rotherham, Quinn has made almost 100 appearances for Hull.

The tenacious central midfield man played a key part in helping Hull earn promotion from the Championship during 2012-13, making more than 40 League appearances as Bruce’s side finished behind Malky Mackay’s title-winning Cardiff team.

He has spent the last two seasons playing in the Premier League and Cardiff could be keen to tap into that know-how.

Slade stuck with Peter Whittingham and Aron Gunnarsson as his midfield duo last season, but appears to have accepted change is needed.

Former Crystal Palace man Kagisho Dikgacoi will be another central option, once he recovers fully from the injury problems which have thus far hindered his Bluebirds career.

Hull have offered Quinn two-year contract, but he will be a free agent if he says no a new deal.

Bluebirds manager Slade has made it clear he wants to bring in an experienced central midfield player to strengthen the side, while he is also intent on ensuring his team have more pace in wide areas.

Slade is keen to have those new signings in place by the time Cardiff head off on their week’s tour to Holland in July.

Certainly the type of player we need. But the Whittingham / Gunnarsson partnership needs to be broken up too. :sladein:

I remember him when I think Sheff Utd beat us 3-0 or 3-1, we had two players sent off in the first half. He scored the third late on and ran over to the grandstand, jumped on the hoarding and gave us the bird. Hated him since...

Ca'nt believe they don't know about the imminent signing of Joe Allen.

Hull City midfielder Stephen Quinn is considering a switch to Cardiff City, according to reports.

The 29-year-old is expected to make a decision on his future this week when he chooses whether to accept a new contract offer from Tigers manager Steve Bruce.

According to Wales Online, Bluebirds manager Russell Slade will swoop in to bring the Republic of Ireland international to the Welsh capital should he opt against putting pen to paper at the KC Stadium.

Quinn, who previously played for Sheffield United, MK Dons and Rotherham United, has made almost 100 appearances for Hull.

I remember that too. He really larged it in front of the disabled section. Put me right off him.

Have recently been considering getting a season ticket but if we are going to sign scum like him then it would put me right off. His actions towards the disabled section that day were disgusting and he has never apologised for it.

Now that Quinn has turned us down, does anyone think Slade might turn his attention to finding the type of player we desperately need I.e. a Midfield General?

Wouldnt mind us going foreign for once and getting some creative quality in the middle of the field.

Or we could have kept daelhi.

Daehli was even more over rated than Fabio. Too lightweight and injury prone ( he has hardly played since he went to Freiburg)

Fabio was our best player by a country mile for half of last season.

And daelhi showed quality in every single appearance for us. Only just turned 20. He was good against premier league defenders.
