" HYMNS AND ARIAS "

Fri Jun 12, 2015 11:07 pm

So what did everyone think of Hymns and Arias ringing around Cardiff City Stadium tonight?

We have been slating Swansea in recent years for adopting this "rugby song", but I don't think there's much our fans can say after tonight considering it was sang at one of the most historic nights in Welsh football history.

It may be an unpopular opinion amongst our lot but I thought it sounded brilliant along with the Welsh national anthem and I for one wouldn't complain if we started singing it at Cardiff games. :thumbright:

Thoughts?

Got to say, I thought it sounded fantastic. It really gave the players a lift at a time we were under a lot of pressure, but the greatest moment of all was about half way through the second half, when we were under immense pressure, then from out of nowhere , the national anthem, land of my father's, started ringing out so load and proud.....it was truely one of them "I was there moments" wow just wow

No problems with it whatsoever. Great rousing Welsh song...easy words, everyone knows it, we can all identify with it, it reinforces our Welshness and our Welsh identity. The Jacks have been quicker than us to realise all these things and have adopted it. Our response is a pathetic, foul, abusive and embarrassing version of it sang back to them. Totally f*cking embarrassing. Too many rugby haters support our Club with their petty little prejudices. We really should get our heads down from our arses. Great atmosphere tonight. Disproves the theory about crap acoustics at CCS doesn't it? :ayatollah:

I watched it on TV and it came across really loud, even the commentators were speechless! Both the fans and players did our country proud today :thumbright: :notworthy:

Wales games yes. Cardiff? No. Don't get me wrong it's a decent chant but no point singing it just cos the Jacks and the Eggers do. Sing Yma O Hyd or Men of Harlech with the actual words if we want a Welsh identity.

Thought it sounded great tonight, and perhaps we should sing it like that at all Wales games.

But I wouldn't sing it at a Cardiff match, the Jacks have it as one of their main songs and it would be wrong if we adopted it.

So why is it okay for Wales to adopt it and not Cardiff?

Because it was adapted by Swansea and it would be seen as us changing our identity because of the times. I'm not sure Swansea chant Men of Harlech as much as us, Wrexham definitely sing it but the Jacks choose to sing Hymns and Arias.

I don't hate it, personally.

Like I say, it was good tonight.

I just think that at club level, it's Swansea's.

Keep it for Wales matches, as it's not really stealing it off them as when it comes to internationals we are all together as one. I always put club rivalries to one side when it comes to Wales.

That's a fair point of view, but I think the only reason Swansea sing it in the first place is to express their Welsh identity. I don't think there's anything wrong with us singing it, I see more as a song for Wales more than a song for Swansea.

The singing made a big difference to the atmosphere and I'm sure it put an extra kick into tired legs on the pitch.

Hymns and Arias is a song about Welshness and as such, see no problem with any Welsh club singing it. To be honest, the song was almost certainly started by Jaxx fans tonight, but what I thought summed up the spirit was that the majority joined in. That's a first for me and great to see club rivalries left at home for internationals.

By the way, I wasn't happy with the few who started to boo when the Belgian Anthem was announced. Again, though, they were quickly made aware of their lack of respect and stopped.

Let's take the positives and cherish the memory of an historic win against formidable opponents.

I was stood there wondering what the real words were while trying not to sing about the jacks getting touched by their fathers...

Re: " HYMNS AND ARIAS "

It's not a jack song. It never has been. It's a song about Wales beating England at twikingham. Got fukall to do with Swansea....its a national song, when it's sung at the millstad for the rugby, its sounds out of this world, real patriotic, and for me, tonight it sounded like that. Don't ever confuse hyms and arias as a jack song. It's nothing of the sort

Re: " HYMNS AND ARIAS "

Sat Jun 13, 2015 1:46 am

I was surprised at how many fans want to avoid any rugby element brought into Welsh football games, yet sing the only song about a rugby day out at Twickenham! I don't think it would be as bad if loads of Welsh clubs sing it, but only one does :/

We sing or should I say brutally destroy, Men of Harlech.

Why are we even talking about a song that is synonymous with a rival club.

We as Cardiff fans should keep it to Wales.

I'd kill of the idiotic version we sing though as it just looks contradictory.

"You'll never walk alone"sounds good too but would you adopt it for cardiff? Its a jack song and should be left as such.Nothing wrong at a wales game though.

Re: " HYMNS AND ARIAS "

A song for egg chasing and Jacks.

I won't sing it at Wales games.
It'll cause divides and instead of being sung by everyone like all the other songs it was only a few ( around us) anyway.

Reminds me of bloody Max Boyce.

I hope a bit of success doesn't spoil Welsh football by turning it into rugby days, I like rugby too, but our football is unique and has a different feel to it.

It will spoil it for me if it just ends up as an extension to the 5 Nations.

We should worry about what songs to sing once we have sorted out the apathy amongst our fans. We have a whole song book of great songs, many much better than this rugby song, just not the willingness to sing them. It's not the material it's the attitude.

One good night, emotions running high, and suddenly we are a choir again
