" THE FIRST 3 PLAYERS TO LEAVE THIS MORNING & THE SAVING £2MILL "

SUPER KEV viewtopic.php?f=2&t=158035 :thumbright: :thumbright:

Kevin McNaughton, Danny Gabbidon and Nicky Maynard who were out of contract have been thanked for their services by Russell Slade.

The savings to their contracts,we are led to believe is £10,000 a week(although Bolton had covered most of that),plus up to £5,000 and finally up to £24,000 a week.

So nearly £40,000 a week saved, approx over £2million a year :thumbright:

Personally I would of kept McNaughton say at £4,000 as a squad player :thumbright:

I have heard there has been rumours of McNaughton being offered a new one year contract, with most of the wages being like a pay per play??

For me bringing back Gabbidon was a total waste of money, so a bad decision. Gabbidon made 2 appearances. Had to go :thumbright:
Maynard is a proven scorer, but has been injury prone and out for long periods,so has cost Cardiff City a fortune. Had to go :thumbright:

i've no problem with the club getting rid of the dross and dead wood.

mcnaughton will be remembered, but maynard was a complete waste of money - what a complete let down. gabbiddon is past it and shouldn't have come here.

Incredible that those three player have now saved us £2m a year.

McNaughton has been a great servant to the club, but it was his time to go. Good luck to him :thumbright:

Bare in mind that Kev hasn't played at all over the last two years for us, Maynard has barely played in the three years he's played for us and Gabbidon has barely played since he joined last summer.

Good business by the club on this one.

Yeah, I'm gutted to see Kev go but every player has their shelf life. I agree that he could have been a great squad player on less money but maybe he turned down that opportunity? Best of luck to him wherever he goes. Will never forget some of his performances in his prime. I loved him so much I named my 5 a side team after him.

Definitely a case of "all good things come to an end" for Kev McN. Good luck to him.

Good economics on these decisions by the club.

Gutted to hear Super Kev is finally going.

Hoped he may have been given another years contract. We need players on about 5k - 10k who will give there all for the club. Kev fits the bill perfectly.

Thanks for everything Super Kev, a City legend. :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Gutted to see Kev go, so many great memories, will always go down as a City legend in my eyes.

Quite sad to see Gabbs go too, I think he understands how us fans work. Right decision to let him go though considering the wages he was on and his playing days being virtually over. Maybe he could've learnt his coaching trade on reduced wages.

Inevitable that Maynard was going to be moved on, I wish him luck, hopefully he can have a fresh start elsewhere and kick start his career again. You can only wonder how different it could've been if it wasn't for his injuries.

Good luck Bluebirds. :bluebird: :bluescarf: :ayatollah:

Can't disagree with any of that and I only wish Super Kev had been here the season just gone

Poorly treated by the club, IMHO!

Super Kev if you read this then simply 'thank you for always giving it everything you had when you played for our club'

In terms of wages another £2m saved without a real loss to the first team squad not bad for a days work!

Correct decision by the club regarding the three players to leave. Maynard has been a complete waste of time, we knew he had injury concerns before signing him, but instead insisted on signing him, and we've barely seen him play for us. Gabbidon coming back was a novelty signing that was never going to materialise in to anything other than he has been for us. The press release thanks Danny for his help as caretaker, but it's a job I wouldn't particularly thank him for doing, nor Scott Young for that matter. McNaughton has been a cracking servant for us, but the time to move him on was 100% correct. Thanks to Super Kev and good luck for the future.
