Why Cardiff City's leading figures MUST prove they can turn club around this summer - Nathan Blake

04-05-15 By Nathan Blake

Bluebirds legend and WalesOnlline columnist urges Vincent Tan and Russell Slade to act and end the divide that has split the fan base

Many supporters, probably most of them, still need to be convinced Russell Slade is the right man to be manager of Cardiff City.

Nonetheless, it was good to hear after the 2-1 win at Nottingham Forest, that he is already getting down to business for 2015-16.

Cardiff have no time to waste and Slade made it clear the hard work starts here. He’s spot on, because Cardiff must make sure they go into the new season having completed transfer work early and ready for action.

Slade believes he needs three or four quality players in, while there will be a few on their way out.

Whatever he does, though, the Bluebirds do need to be ready early.

I certainly don’t want to see City starting their Championship fixtures while still trying to bring in players and move others on.

Come the end of pre-season fixtures, Slade must know his squad ... and probably his best team.

If he sets out transfer business in a decisive and organised way that will go a way to appeasing some fans. If he brings in players who can make an impact, hopefully some will be even more impressed.

Undoubtedly, the next couple of months, before the new season even starts, are crucial for Slade and the football club.

City need to win over fans who have been pushed so far and won’t take anything they don’t think is right.

When a club is split - and there is certainly a divide between City and their supporters - that’s what happens.

Slade, owner Vincent Tan and other officials must work together to show their vision and make it clear how our club is going to progress.

It’s crucial that Tan and Co work to galvanise fans. There must be clear evidence, before a ball is kicked in anger, that things are back on track.

If the situation doesn’t change before next season, I’m afraid not even 10 wins from the first 10 matches would win supporters over if things still don’t look right within the club.

Recent results have not been out of this world, but there has been an improvement under Slade away from home at least. The football being played isn’t great, but it’s better.

The fans, though, want more. They need to see Cardiff City making a move and showing signs they are capable of realising their potential.

At least Slade’s men finished the season in style with a win at Forest and lost only once on their last eight away trips. That’s solid form.

Home form, on the other hand, has been a concern and that’s a complete turnaround from a few months ago when they were winning at home and couldn’t seem to do that away.

The key is consistency, home and away.

To achieve that Tan, Slade and the rest must make sure the club has stability. Large numbers of fans seem to be pulling in different directions to the management and owner at times.

This is going to be a big summer for the club. There is a lot to do and top of the list is ensuring splits are mended and there is at least better unity off the pitch by the time we go into August.

Tan must show strong leadership and show he is working for a bright Bluebirds future. He is meeting Slade in the UK and again in Malaysia over the next few weeks.

There is no time to waste. They have to make progress fast and show they are going to be on track for 2015-16.

To be honest he can't do any worse than the last two muppets we've had in charge. Can't see him paying 8.5m for a total wankbag.

Well said, the amount of abuse Slade takes over some of his signings which cost the fraction of what Ole and Malky, not even mentioning wages is totally unfair. Thankfully we are 'not' shopping in Harrords anymore as the club would simply go bust and we would all end up with nothing!

I have no problem with his signings, he's done well in that department with limited resources, it's his decisions on selection tactics and the dire football which is my problem :sladeout:
