We’ve still got one or two doubts. Macheda and Revell have made progress, but remain doubtful for Reading. Ben Turner is making good progress. He’s not going to be in and around it for these two games. He’s having some part of sessions and next week will go in fully. He wants to get fit. That’s the good thing.

He’s determined. We hope he will be available soon. Dikgacoi is making progress. There’s a fitness element that needs to be addressed. He’s back in full training and we hope he will play some football this season. He’s working hard and he needs to lost a few more pounds. Pilkington is in training too. Hoping to give him some football.

We have a game on the 10th and if he comes through that, all systems go. Peltier is back in contention. That’s good news too.

Joe Mason will be joining the group travelling which is good to see. Remains to see whether he will start, but he’s been training well. We are delighted he’s back.

Turner is regaining fitness fast.

Joe Mason and Kagisho Dikgacoi are both nearing first team returns after lengthy spells on the sidelines, both players completed forty five minutes in a recent development game against Brentford.

Anthony Pilkington is in training after being out since our away win over Watford in November which at the time it was expected that the midfielder would miss just 3-4 weeks.

Macheda is recovering well from his injury which ruled him out minutes before the Birmingham game, injuring himself in the warm up.

Alex Revell pulled his hamstring and the Reading game will come a little too quickly for the 31 year old.

Ben Turner remains sidelined but is hopeful of featuring before the season ends.

Kadeem Harris serves the last of his three match suspension.

Reading Football Club is an English professional football club, based in Reading, that plays in the Football League Championship. The club competed in the 2012–13 Premier League season, having gained promotion at the end of the 2011–12 season, after winning the Championship. Reading are competing in the Championship again this season having been relegated after one year back in the top flight.

Reading are nicknamed The Royals, due to Reading's location in the Royal County of Berkshire, though they were previously known as The Biscuitmen, due to the town's association with Huntley and Palmers. Established in 1871, the club is one of the oldest teams in England, but did not join The Football League until 1920, and had never played in the top tier of English football league system before the 2006–07 season.

The club played at Elm Park for 102 years between 1896 to 1998. The club moved in 1998 to the new Madejski Stadium, which is named after the club's Co chairman Sir John Madejski.

The club holds the record for the number of successive league wins at the start of a season, with a total of 13 wins at the start of the 1985–86 Third Division campaign and also the record for the number of points gained in a professional league season with 106 points in the 2005–06 Football League Championship campaign. Reading finished eighth in their first ever season as a top flight club.

Madejski Stadium

Image

This Club moved to the stadium in 1998, after spending 102 years at their former home of Elm Park. The stadium is of a fair size and is totally enclosed, with all four corners being occupied. Three sides are single tiered, whilst on one side the West (Main) Stand is two tiered, including a row of executive boxes. This stand has a curve in its roof and the team dug outs are located in front. Unlike the West Stand, the others stands have a more conventional look to their roofs, although there is a gap between the roofs and the back of the stands, that contains perspex, to allow more light to reach the pitch. The ground has been designed with the supporter in mind as the fans are housed very close to the pitch and the acoustics are very good. The stadium also has a video screen in the South East corner. The stadium, named after Reading's chairman John Madejski is shared with London Irish Rugby Club.

Reading FC v Cardiff City FC: Let's beat the Bluebirds and end this talk of relegation

Thurs 2nd April 2015

BY Ady Williams

Royals legend Ady Williams says three points are needed this weekend when Russell Slade's side come to town

Hal Robson-Kanu celebrates scoring the winner at Cardiff in the FA Cup fourth round.
So after the international break, it’s England against Wales at the Madejski Stadium this Saturday.

We’ve had a number of first-teamers away with their national sides, with Hal Robson-Kanu, Chris Gunter and Oliver Norwood probably playing the most football with Wales and Northern Ireland.

I guess it’s always a nervy time for a manager when he has so many players away, but at the end of the day, if you want a decent squad, you assemble players of international quality. It is however great to be back in the Championship.

I feel I’m not speaking out of turn when I say both Reading and Cardiff have fallen short of expectations this season. Both clubs have sacked managers and both are lower than they would have liked to be in the league table.

The only difference for me is there is a lot of pressure on Russell Slade, whereas very little, if any, on Steve Clarke.

As it’s stands, it’s 1-1, Cardiff winning the league fixture earlier in the season and Royals winning the FA Cup fourth Round tie.

That said there are just five places that separate the clubs in the table and both games finished 2-1 so there’s very little to chose between the sides. The only difference is we have an FA Cup semi final at Wembley to play.

That of course is getting closer and closer but has the gaffer has been saying since his arrival, we really do still need to put points on the board in the Championship.

Nine points is now the difference between Wigan who occupy the final relegation spot and Reading. Let me tell you, that isn’t a comfortable margin.

A win and a defeat on the same week and it’s down to six, so let’s get a victory over a Cardiff side that certainly haven’t been firing on all cylinders this season, and once and for all stop the threat of relegation.

I’d like to welcome Kwasi Appiah and Nathan Ake to Berkshire and of course wish them well in their Reading careers, plus also wish Danny Guthrie and Jake Taylor, who have gone out on loan, a decent end to the season.

Sport Football Football News Ben Turner
Cardiff City centre back Ben Turner in with a chance of making shock return from injury against Reading

Thurs 2 April 2015

By Terry Phillips

Turner damaged his ankle ligaments against the Royals in January and it was unclear if he would be able to play again this season

Centre-half Ben Turner could make a shock return to Cardiff City’s matchday squad for this Saturday’s clash with Reading.

The big defender has made fast progress over the last couple of weeks and manager Russell Slade says: “Ben has taken part in a couple of training sessions and with a couple more to go he has an outside chance.

“It has been good to see the progress he has made and we are confident he will be back playing Championship football before the end of this season.”

Slade’s medical team will put Turner through his paces in training sessions on Thursday and Friday before making a final assessment to see if he is ready to be involved.

Striker Joe Mason, too, could be included in the 18-man squad at Reading, while full-back Lee Peltier is fit again and looks likely to start at right-back.

The big shock, though, is that Turner is regaining fitness fast. He damaged ankle ligaments during the FA Cup tie against Reading in January, a tie the Royals won 2-1 on their way to a semi-final place against Arsenal at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, April 18.

It was thought Turner would miss the rest of this season, but he has worked hard with the club’s medical team and shocked City coaches with his rate of progress.

Striker Mason, 23, hasn’t played for Cardiff for 14 months, while his last goal for the Bluebirds was during a 3-0 win against Blackburn Rovers at home during April 2013.

He was recalled from his loan spell at Bolton after suffering a serious hamstring injury and Cardiff manager Russell Slade is keen to see Mason in Bluebirds action between now and the end of this season.

Plymouth-born Mason, who joined Cardiff four years ago, has made played in two matches since being given the go-ahead to rejoin the first team squad for full training.

Both Mason and South African international Kagisho Dikgacoi, who has made only three first team appearances since his free transfer move from Crystal Palace, played 45 minutes for Cardiff in a development league match at Brentford.

They have also come through two half hour sessions during an internal training game.

Kagisho Dikgacoi played in a development league match recently

While Mason could even be among City’s subs in one or both of City’s matches this weekend - against Reading away and Bolton at home - Dikgacoi still has a fair bit of fitness work to get through before he is ready, but could be involved in one of all of the last three fixtures this season, against Millwall (home), Blackpool (home) and Nottingham Forest (away).

Federico Macheda and Alex Revell are both a little closer to playing again after being able to join in training this week, while full-back Lee Peltier and forward Conor McAleny are both fit and ready to play against Reading.

Anthony Pilkington is training again, but won’t be in the 18-man squad in either of this weekend’s matches.

Reading manager Steve Clarke strengthened his squad during the international break, signing Kwesi Appiah and Nathan Ake on loan from Crystal Palace and Chelsea respectively.

Striker Appiah adds extra option up front, though the 24-year-old has never played in the Championship. He netted eight goals in 23 games for Cambridge United earlier this season and impressed at the African Cup of Nations cup.

Clarke utilised his Chelsea connections again to land Ake on a month’s loan. The versatile 20-year-old has signed until April 22, giving Clarke cover at centre-back, left-back and defensive midfield.

He has played 11 times for Chelsea’s first team and was an unused substitute in the Capital One Cup final against Tottenham last month.

The Netherlands under-21 international covers exactly the same positions as Nathaniel Chalobah, who is expected back in training after suffering an injury during the FA Cup quarter-final win against Bradford.

Nine points is now the gap between Reading and the bottom three, with the Royals also holding a game in hand over the teams around them in the table.

They may not need that to secure their safety, though. Two wins over the Easter weekend coupled with defeats for 22nd-placed Wigan Athletic against high-flying Middlesbrough and Derby County would open up a 15-point gap with as many left up for grabs.

In reality, it would take an unlikely sequence of results for Steve Clarke's side to be dragged down into the mire, but he will still want to get the formalities of survival wrapped up as soon as possible.

Aside from bringing an end to any nagging doubts, it would also allow the Royals to focus fully on the FA Cup, with a Wembley semi-final against current holders Arsenal awaiting them later this month.

Blackpool are their opponents on Tuesday evening - a match that could well see the Tangerines relegated from the division - so victory this weekend would set Reading up nicely for maximum points over the double-header.

They have lost six and won just two of their last nine league games, however, including a 22-minute second-half collapse against Charlton Athletic before the international break that saw them blow a lead and concede three goals before pulling one back in a 3-2 defeat at The Valley.

Reading have only lost three league games in a row once since the beginning of 2014, but they have shipped seven goals on their way to defeats in their last two and will need an improvement if they are to avoid an unwanted hat-trick.

They brought an end to another three-game losing streak last month as victory over Brighton & Hove Albion prevented them from falling to four consecutive defeats at the Madejski, but their home form has been inconsistent all season.

This is the first of eight matches for Reading in the space of 24 days as they prepare for a busy April.

Like Reading, Cardiff have spent much of the season in the bottom half of the table, but they will be optimistic of ending the campaign in the top 12 following their recent upturn in form.

The Bluebirds have been beaten just once in their last five matches, taking points off promotion hopefuls Brentford and Bournemouth in the process, having won just one in 10 before that.

As a result, they now sit just two points off the top half, and victory this weekend, coupled with Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds United both failing to win, would see them climb up to 12th.

Assistant manager Scott Young has outlined the team's desire to finish as high up the table as possible now and, with nothing else on the agenda to distract them, a push for the top 10 by the end of the campaign is likely to be their most realistic ambition.

That target will be perfectly achievable if Cardiff can maintain their recent away form for the remainder of the campaign. The Bluebirds have won their last three games on the road having emerged victorious from only one of their opening 16 league away games.

Another triumph this weekend would give them four in a row away from home for the first time since February 2013, and also stretch their unbeaten record on their travels to six matches.

Cardiff travel to The Madejski Stadium off the back of strong form following the International Break.

Russell Slade will hope his team can keep their run going after away wins at Rotherham and Brentford in the last month. Giving them seven points from a possible nine going into the last stretch of the season.

With seven games remaining, The Bluebirds are hoping they will be able to come out of tomorrow's clash with a much needed three points to continue their good form in the league.

Reading stand in their way with a lot of confidence after reaching the FA Cup Semi-Final with an impressive victory over Bradford. Steve Clarke's side are not having the best of times in the league however, with only one win in their last six games.

Cardiff may be looking at yet another strike partnership this season, Eoin Doyle could be partnered by the likes of Joe Mason, or Connor McAllen, after Kenwyne Jones was loaned to promotion hopefuls Bournemouth on the loan deadline day. Reading also did some business on deadline day, with Nathan Aké and Kwesi Appiah from Chelsea and Crystal Palace respectively.

In terms of clashes between the two sides, Reading won the last encounter at The CCS in a 2-1 win in the FA Cup. Maybe getting revenge after Cardiff's 2-1 win earlier on in the season, a game in which saw Alex Pearce dismissed.

Cardiff have the same injury news as in recent weeks, with Alex Revell, Kiko Macheda and Anthony Pilkington still missing. Ben Turner is also still a doubt as is Kagisho Dikgacoi.

As for Reading, Danny Williams is suspended following his red card away at Charlton, and Simon Cox, who picked up a knock in mid-week training.

Cardiff (14th)
Form (all comps): WDWLW
Cardiff v Birmingham: 2-0
Cardiff v Bournemouth: 1-1
Brentford v Cardiff: 1-2
Cardiff v Charlton: 1-2
Rotherham v Cardiff: 1-3

Manager: Russell Slade

After a previous run of one win in ten, Russell Slade’s men have now won three of their last five matches climbing to 14th in the table. What enhances this form further is a credible draw against 2nd placed Bournemouth and a victory away from home against 5th placed Brentford. The Bluebird’s previous three away games have also yielded victories and they will come into this one believing they can extend that winning streak against struggling Reading.

According to skysports Doyle has not had a touch as our midfield are so poor , how long before Slade and co change the problem we have had all season our midfield is rubbish, the only promising midfielder is Kennedy and he is on the bench. I need a drink

To be fair both teams look poor,no creativity in midfield and City not getting the ball to their forwards.

Fabio,so far best player.

Half-time

Reading 1 City 0
