Brighton History

Brighton and Hove Albion Football Club is an English football club based in the coastal city of Brighton & Hove, East Sussex. It is often referred to just as Brighton.

They currently play in the Football League Championship, the second tier of the English football league system.

The team is nicknamed the "Seagulls" or "Albion". The team has historically played in blue and white stripes, though this changed to all white briefly in the 1970s and

again to plain blue during the club's most successful spell in the 1980s. Crystal Palace is considered the club's main rival, although the grounds are 40 miles apart.

Founded in 1901, Brighton played their early professional football in the Southern League before being elected to the Football League in 1920. The club enjoyed

greatest prominence between 1979 and 1983 when they played in the First Division and reached the 1983 FA Cup Final, losing to Manchester United after a replay.[4] They

were relegated from the top division in the same season. Mismanagement brought Brighton close to relegation from the Football League to the Conference which they

narrowly avoided in 1997 and 1998. A boardroom takeover saved Brighton from liquidation, and following successive promotions they returned to the second tier of

English football in 2002 and have played in the second and third tiers ever since

Pre Match report for the Cardiff game - Tuesday, 10th February 2015

Cardiff v Brighton

Albion sits just above the drop zone (21) and desperately requires more points to get clear of impending trouble.
For this mid-weeks shenanigans, lower-table clubs are all in the mix:
16 Bolton v 17 Fulham, Blackburn v 18 Rotherham, 19 Charlton v Norwich, Reading v 20 Leeds, Birmingham v 22 Millwall, Forest v 23 Wigan and 24 Blackpool v Middlesbrough.

CARDIFF halfway; P23 W8 D7 L8 F30 A31 Pt31 Po11 = 1.34pt/gm - forecasting approx 62 points at that rate of progress.
FA CUP; R4 lost @ home to Reading 1-2. There was more protesting from unsettled local supporters.
Boss Russell Slade said, +we have to unite, be strong, face the criticism and respond+
R3 won @ MK Dons 0-3.

RUSSELL SLADE has his work cut out trying to make City a force in the Championship and after scrambling a point at Wednesday on Saturday said, +our attitude was first class from the start+
He has shifted a number of players out of the club this term in a further attempt to cut large wage bills.

Evening Ladies.

Well, the day I've been looking forward to the most is nearly upon us as it'll be my sixth visit to the beautiful country of Wales, four times to Ninian Park, once to the Millennium Stadium for the play off final and now for the triple and that's your new ground and it'll be my last time.

I'm hoping things have calmed down some what since the Ninan days as sometimes I felt like i was walking into an early grave, don't get me wrong, I've been to many grounds where it's like holy f**k but none of them compare to the Ninain park days where the adrenalin is pumping and the hostility is every fans nightmare but that's why I always came back for second and third helpings, proper football ground where fans and players should fear, none of this namby pamby bollocks which we get now days.

It's a fact back in those days the home team always had the advantage because of the hostile atmosphere but nowadays the away teams feel like its their home ground.

I'm not meant to travel as was supposed to be admitted to hospital on Saturday but told them it'll have to wait till Thursday as need to visit Cardiff one more time. Got a new laptop Friday as broke the last one a couple of weeks back, bloody stupid as I sat on the thing and snapped the hinge.

Onto the Footy.

If Slade has done his homework then I expect a 5-1 win for you, if not then maybe a draw or we'll nick it 2-1.Stockdale our keeper and Greer our Capitan are our weakest links. Oh no, mustn't or can't drop the OAP as he's Captain.

Stockdale is Mr Calamity- Last two games they've had four shots on target and have scored four times. Stockdale the keeper has probably saved us 1 point so far but has cost us at least 12 or more points. Watch the Forest first goal on Saturday and you'll see why. He's so indecisive it's unreal, he'll cost us relegation.

I'll be happy either way come Tuesday after game, I'll give a wee smile if you win or us. Paul Barber our chief executive has picked his Bonus up for reducing our debts by selling our best players while bringing in mediocre players from divisions below. Trying to do things on the cheap has only one outcome and he thought he was being clever. The club has nose dived since he joined so that's why if you win on Tuesday I'll give a wee smile.

Not only that, I've watched Cardiff play more than any other club.

Hope it's an entertaining game for all and noticed from above it's POTD for home fans so i assume it's for away fans as well?

Dale Stephens is back in the Albion squad for the first time in ten months for the visit to Cardiff tomorrow night.

Greg Halford is also back in contention after injury and ineligibility and Sam Baldock has a chance of being involved.

But Solly March is a likely absentee and the Seagulls are also concerned about the workload of Kazenga LuaLua so soon into his recovery.

Former Charlton midfielder Stephens, sidelined since April by ankle ligament and nerve damage, has stepped up his recovery recently with three partial outings in the under-21s.

Manager Chris Hughton told The Argus this morning: "He's in the squad, which is good. We're happy that he has done enough training and showed enough to be part of the squad. Some of that is about getting him back involved again, because he's a good player."
Utility player Halford, on loan from Nottingham Forest, is available for the trip to Wales. He could not play against his parent club at the Amex on Saturday under the terms of the loan agreement after missing the previous three games with a calf problem.

Hughton said: "He's back fit and fine and will be in the squad. He has trained for the last couple of days and would have been available for the Forest game.

"He had come in and done well in games in central defence but he has a versatility about him. With the injury problems we've had he's a good one to have in the squad."

Baldock missed the 3-2 setback against Forest with a hamstring injury sustained in the previous defeat at Blackpool.

Hughton said: "Sam is very close. We're hoping he is going to train today."

March is a major doubt with the calf injury that forced him off early on against Forest. Replacement LuaLua had been out since November with knee trouble.

Hughton said: "He certainly came on perhaps earlier than we would have liked and you could see the effects of that in the latter part of the game. He is one we have got to be mindful of and manage in the best way we can."

DALE STEPHENS is set to return to the Brighton & Hove Albion squad for the trip to Cardiff City tomorrow (Tuesday).

The midfielder, who has been out with a long-term ankle injury, has made three appearances for the Seagulls' U21 side in recent weeks, but is now set to make his first return to the first team since April.

Sam Baldock is also closing in on a return from injury and could feature in the Championship clash, while Greg Halford will return to the squad, having been ineligible to face Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

However, Solly March is set to miss the match in south Wales after injuring his calf on Saturday.
