Undisclosed fee, deal until 2017
UPDATED 28TH JANUARY 4.10pm
Cardiff City Football Club is pleased to announce the signing of Stuart O’Keefe from Crystal Palace, subject to international clearance, for an undisclosed fee.
Midfielder Stuart becomes Russell Slade’s fourth signing of the January transfer window and has committed himself to the Bluebirds in a two and a half year deal that will take him through to the summer of 2017.
The 23 year-old, born in Suffolk, began his professional career at Southend United in 2008. He signed for Palace two years later, prior to a brief loan spell with Blackpool in the earlier part of the 2014/15 season.
Speaking exclusively to Cardiff City Player, Stuart said: “I’m really happy to be a Cardiff City player.
"I enjoyed my four years at Palace, but I wanted to come here now for a new challenge. I’m 23 and I felt it was the right time to take the next step in my career.”
Commenting on his strengths as a player, Stuart added: “I like to bring a bit of energy to midfield and keep the ball moving in that area of the park.
"That’s what my game is about and the Gaffer has asked me to come in and contribute to the side in that way.
“We’ve obviously got a big game coming up against Derby County and I’m feeling ready to get going straight away. Hopefully I’ll be involved and I’m looking forward to getting out there in a Cardiff City shirt.”
Stuart will wear the vacant number 22 shirt at Cardiff City.

Russell Slade is poised to bring in the Palace man as the Bluebirds boss seeks more bite and energy in his midfield
Cardiff City boss Russell Slade is set to make his fourth signing of the January transfer window by landing midfielder Stuart O’Keefe from Crystal Palace.
Manager Slade believes the 23-year-old battler can become a leading figure for the Bluebirds as they aim to stop their slide down the Championship.
Terms have been agreed with Palace and the Bluebirds hope to have O’Keefe in their squad for this Saturday’s home match against Derby County.
The final paperwork is being completed this afternoon and O’Keefe will train with his new club-mates over the next few days.
Cardiff badly need a lift in their misfiring midfield and O’Keefe will be asked to bring bite, energy and, most importantly, leadership in that area.
O’Keefe had a brief role as a substitute in Palace’s opening day Premier League clash with Arsenal, before starting the following game with West Ham.
He then spent a spell on loan with Blackpool between November 29 and December 20, before returning to Selhurst Park where he started the 4-0 FA Cup win over Dover on January 4.
The former Southend player has not featured under Alan Pardew since and will be Slade’s fourth signing since he took charge of Cardiff, following Scott Malone, Alex Revell and Lee Peltier.
Cardiff are still keen to bring in two more signings before the transfer window closes next Monday and German international defender Robert Huth, currently with Stoke, could yet be joining on loan.
Slade is also keen to sign a striker and has identified several targets. Joe Mason is back from his loan spell at Bolton, but will be in rehab for another few weeks as he recovers from a hamstring injury.
