Blackpool are locked in a bizarre battle with Cardiff City as they attempt to terminate the loan of Joe Lewis.

The keeper has been one of the club’s stand-out players so far this season with a number of eye-catching displays despite their desperate league position.

After reports circulated over the weekend suggesting the 27-year-old could be returning to his parent club, Pool boss Lee Clark insisted Lewis was left out of Saturday’s trip to Watford for ‘tactical reasons’.

But The Gazette understands the Seasiders yesterday asked Cardiff City to terminate the loan immediately, something the Welsh side are so far refusing to do.

It all leaves Lewis in a position of limbo and not currently training with his Blackpool team mates.

It’s believed the loan agreement means Pool must pay a fee for the player after a certain amount of games and that could be one of the reasons behind the move to send him back.

The situation is another major distraction for Blackpool who currently lie nine points adrift at the bottom of the Championship table.

May as well get him back and flog Marshall for what they can get.. Gone past caring

If we are cutting our wage bill seems silly to bring him back just because Blackpool dont want him anymore.

Marshall is number one, Moore a good number 2, so unless Marshall is sold it would be silly to have Lewis back.

Bit late now, there's only a few days left of the transfer window. They can't be stupid enough to think that we'd take him back and pay his full wages for the rest of the season whilst he sits in the reserves? Or are we that stupid?

In fairness this is not of Cardiffs doing. We are well within our rights to reject there request.

Feel sorry for Joe Lewis, though. Good 'keeper and a good pro. Seems a decent bloke, too.

I hope we stick to our guns and don't cave into Blackpool

Exactly! This is beyond his control and yet why should pool pull a fast one??

If this is a legally binding loan agreement then City could ask the FA to intervene. If Blackpool can't or don't want to pay his wages then they should work with City to find another club for Lewis to go to. Blackpool might be in the shit money wise but they can't simply say have him back. They need to find a solution to their problem not the City.

theres nothing to discuss here, it will be in the contract as to whether they can terminate the loan or not.

All down Blackpool's end.. Read a lot of Blackpool tweets and he's been their best player by all accounts.

They seem to be right now in a worse state than us with the owner.

Yes, we (or the people that 'run' the club) are indeed that stupid.
