CARDIFF CITY FC Friday 19th Dec 2014

Cardiff City Football Club can confirm that on Tuesday, 16th December 2014, Magnus Wolff Eikrem’s contract with the club was terminated by mutual agreement. The player leaves Cardiff City with immediate effect.

We would like to thank Magnus for his contribution and wish him the very best for his future.

Cardiff City release former Manchester United trainee Magnus Eikrem after sorry year in South Wales
Dec 19, 2014
By Gareth Rogers
Less than a year after joining Cardiff City from Dutch side Heerenveen, midfielder Magnus Eikrem has left the club by mutual consent.

Magnus Eikrem only made one league start at Cardiff City

Magnus Wolff Eikrem has left Cardiff City after a disappointing year in South Wales.

The £2m Norway midfielder was Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's first signing last January but he failed to make an impact at the Cardiff City Stadium after making just nine first team appearances and only starting once.

Former Manchester United trainee Eikrem , 24, hasn't made a single Championship start for the Bluebirds this season and left the club on Tuesday.

A short statement on the club's official site said: "Cardiff City Football Club can confirm that on Tuesday, 16th December 2014, Magnus Wolff Eikrem’s contract with the club was terminated by mutual agreement. The player leaves Cardiff City with immediate effect.

"We would like to thank Magnus for his contribution and wish him the very best for his future."

Swedish champions Malmo have been linked to his signature, as have former club Molde.

It's ridiculous. Ive just literally said to someone else; in the 40 minutes of league football he has played for us he's been top notch, sharp, powerful & good on the ball. He has one poor performance in the cup and everyone wants his head!

Tan wants him gone,so Slade has no choice.

Could we not even try and get a small fee for our players rather than releasing them for free? Or am i missing something here?

Re: ' ANOTHER CARDIFF PLAYER LEAVES CLUB IMMEDIATELY '

Fri Dec 19, 2014 11:35 am

Strange , that is two players we could have got transfer fees for in two weeks time .
Instead we have paid them off to cancel the contracts .
Surely you wait to see if you can offload them in January ?

Thats how Tan runs our football club Thomas, very strange, but great businessman away from football, but has lost money for 4 years at Cardiff City £170 Million

The truth is,he is clueless with a football club.

I would imagine the released players have been touted before being released but no interest shown. Although released sometimes it can be a mutual agreement where a payoff is provided however it wouldn't be an amount equivalent to paying their wages for the remainder of their contract

Shame about Guerra. It's hard to know what is going on behind closed doors though. Fascinating reading Bellamy's autobiography about how Robinho and Elano were. I get the impression that's what Cala and Guerra were like. So if that's the case, not surprised they are both wanted gone... no matter how good they could have been for us.

Probably a case of their high wage contracts being a barrier for other clubs, even on a free.

It doesn't really make sense any way you look at it .
I'm pretty sure a player of eikram a quality which is IMO championship level would have a number of clubs willing to take him .
Even if we get say 300k- 500k for him it's better than paying him off . Maybe his wages are so high that tan realised we have no chance of offloading him so it's better to come to a deal and reduce further future losses in wages ?

Re: ' ANOTHER CARDIFF PLAYER LEAVES CLUB IMMEDIATELY '

Fri Dec 19, 2014 11:43 am

Can anyone confirm how much we signed Eikrem for? I've seen figures between 1.5 million and 3.5 million. Why couldn't we have loaned him out, hope he performed well and attract interest to sell him for a decent fee instead of terminating his contract, costing our club more money? Tan is a lunatic!

Agree, we need to utilise our quality players but instead a cost cutting exercise seems to be in place which is like shooting ourselves in the foot. I agree that we need to get rid of any deadwood but surely if you have quality which could get you back to the promised land why ship them out to save money? That's the time that you need that extra quality to beat the average teams in the Division. Would have liked Guerra, Daehli and Ravel when he was here to be given more game time.

What did bellamy say they were like?

Annis why would tan want guerra gone so bad? Slade said that guerra hasent been showing the form in training and games of a top goalscorer from la liga, either slade is saying this and being genuine or it shows slade is just covering tans arse and lying to fans and the media, basically being tans puppet.

I have the feeling that he is at last beginning to learn about the financial side of running a football club. He has put too much trust in others, who quite frankly have wasted tens of millions of pounds of his money. You can't really blame him for starting to take control of the situation. I'd do the same in his position. Still don't like him though for f*cking with our shirt and badge. :bluescarf:

To all you slagging off club again!! Several clubs inc Sunderland liverpool have owners who pick who goes who stays? Why the ****do you constantly slag off Club which is only doing what every other club does when got dead wood? Contracts ended by mutual consent! Better than having them on wage bill doing FCK all, its not for us fans to judge who is right for team is it? And if don't get rid won't have space in January so cannot have cake and eat it even though you lot want both!! :o

If you honestly think terminating Cala's and Eikrem's contracts just before the January transfer window opens is a good move for the financial security of our club, you're insane!

Why not? We could have at least loaned them out and got the club to pay a percentage of the wages. I reckon we could have received a minimum of 500k for both of them. Cala has previously played in La Liga and Eikrem is a Norwegian international ffs!
