More than 1,000 presents have been given out to poorly children and the doctors and nurses caring for them by a charity bringing plenty of Christmas cheer.

The Dreams & Wishes charity was joined by Cardiff City footballers this year for their annual trip around South Wales distributing presents.

The squad signed autographs and posed for pictures and during a stop at Ty Hafan and also made mince pies.

They were joined by six Welsh Guards in their full ceremonial dress as well as Pudsey Bear, Top Cat and Santa’s team of helpers.

The charity also made deliveries in Newport and at the Velindre Cancer Centre in Cardiff.

City winger Craig Noone has been announced as the newest ambassador for Dreams & Wishes.

He said: “The club has been visiting the Children’s Hospital for Wales for many years now and it’s such a special place.

“Our visit is always a day of mixed emotions but it’s always nice to meet the children and their families and create as many smiles as we can.

“I have admired the work Dreams & Wishes have done over the last few years through their association with the club and was delighted when asked to be a part of this inspirational charity.

“It’s important to the players and the club to give something back and provide positivity to our young fans, many of whom are facing tough times.”

It is the 25th year Tony Curtis, from the charity, has given gifts out – and he said this was the biggest year yet.

“When a mother says ‘I haven’t seen my daughter smile for a long time’ you realise it’s all worthwhile. These kids and their families are enjoying it and they go through such tough times – it’s all just to bring a smile to their faces.”

He said every nurse and doctor got a present worth up to £30, which had been donated by Boots and Wilko.

“Seeing the happiness on their faces and spreading some Christmas cheer is just fantastic,” said Tony.

Sarah Lloyd, from Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for Wales, said the players’ visit “brightened” the day of patients and their families.

Eleanor Ryan, from Ty Hafan, said: “We are thrilled that Cardiff City FC players visited us today. They made lots of families very happy and were fantastic with all the children. They made mince pies, watched the panto, and helped pick our Christmas raffle winners.”

When I was working in Velindre hospital, the players came in several times around Christmas. Good work that often goes unreported. Credit to the club. :bluescarf:
