Cardiff City transfer window:

Dec 18th, 2014

By Simon Gaskell

Who could Cardiff City go for in January?

We have taken a look at 21 players that Slade may be able to snare to finally inject some impetus into the faltering Bluebirds...

Shaun Wright-Phillips (QPR), 33, winger
Wright-Phillips is a peripheral figure under Harry Redknapp and though getting on these days, could offer a touch of the mercurial on the wing to get the Bluebirds firing.

Ryan Taylor (Newcastle United), 30, full-back/midfielder
The ex-Wigan man is a set-piece specialist who likes to bomb forward and though he has played two matches in the Premier League for the Toon this season has been forced to play second-fiddle to the likes of Dutch international Daryl Janmaat.

Wilson Palacios (Stoke City), 30, central midfielder
The Honduran went to the Britannia Stadium as part of a record deal alongside Peter Crouch after impressing with his dynamic role in front of defences at Spurs and Wigan. But with Stoke looking to move Palacios and his reported £35k-a-week wages on, could Cardiff put in a loan offer?

Jimmy Kebe (Crystal Palace), 30, winger
There was a time when the rangy wideman was the scourge of Championship defences everywhere but he hasn't played a minute this season and was most recently linked with the manager's job at former club Reading as an outside 20/1 shot before Steve Clarke was named. If he can re-discover anything like his form in the division from a couple of seasons ago, he would be well worth a go.

Sam Vokes (Burnley), 25, striker
The Wales international is on his way back after a serious cruciate injury and knee surgery last season. He completed 90 minutes for Burnley's development side against Crewe recently and, with Danny Ings, Ashley Barnes and Marvin Sordell all in front of him at Turf Moor may be looking to build match fitness elsewhere. He scored 20 goals in the Championship last term.

DeAndre Yedlin (Spurs), 21, full-back
Okay, this is very unlikely to happen and is the most ambitious name of the lot. But with the flying USA full-back due to join up with Spurs in January after leaving the Seattle Sounders, could it be worth asking if he fancies some game time to bring him up to speed in the maelstrom of the Championship?

Tom Lawrence (Leicester City), 20, winger
The ex-Manchester United man moved to Leicester in the summer and is now on loan at Rotherham. He impressed on a recent visit to the Cardiff City Stadium with the Millers and with his loan only short-term, Cardiff may have sat up and taken notice and ask the Foxes if he could be sent out again but this time to South Wales.

Chuba Akpom (Arsenal), 19, striker

Gunners fans are very excited about the exploits of the teenage goal machine for Arsene Wenger's youth team where he has scored a hatful of goals. There has even been a clamour for him to be involved in the first-team set-up. Cardiff could benefit from Akpom's raw talent in the meantime if he can't get a game at the Emirates.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek (Chelsea), 18, striker
Similar to Akpom, th fabulously-named Loftus-Cheek is causing a stir in London thanks to a prodigious talent displayed in the youth ranks. He recently came off the bench for Jose Mourinho in the Champions League versus Sporting Lisbon and whether he would be allowed out on loan is unclear.

Andreas Pereira (Manchester United), 18, midfielder
Young cultured talent does not come much better than Pereira who has experience playing for PSV Eindhoven, Manchester United and the youth teams of Belgium and Brazil. Still only 18, match-experience must now be on the agenda for him and Louis Van Gaal may be receptive to the idea of allowing him to get games.

Danny Graham (Sunderland - on loan to Wolves), 29, striker
His Swansea City connections might not make him the most popular in the capital but he is an experienced campaigner with the guile to get goals. He is on loan to Wolves currently as he is out-of-favour on Wearside but his deal at Molineux is up before the New Year.

Matt Targett (Southampton), 19, left-back
The natural successor to Luke Shaw at St Mary's, the Saints have attempted to tie down for fear that bigger clubs may try and poach him. He may be too close to the first team picture under Ronald Koeman on the South Coast to lure away though.

Dean Cox (Leyton Orient), 27, winger
Slade may well want to go with tried and tested players and a raid on his former club has been mooted as a result. Foremost in the category of players he would like is Cox - who scored 17 goals in all competitions from midfield last season.

Scott Cuthbert (Leyton Orient), 27, centre-back
Another of Slade's former charges linked with the Cardiff City Stadium, the Scot has been an ever-present for the O's and could be one of those with the warrior-like mentality in the dressing room which Slade is seeking.

Conor Hourihane (Barnsley), 23, midfielder
The goal-getting midfielder has been marked out for big things since impressing under John Sheridan at Plymouth. He started the season in terrific fashion, scoring a number of long-range spectaculars with his wand of a left foot.

Eoin Doyle (Chesterfield), 26, striker
One of the country's form strikers, Doyle has fired 16 goals for Chesterfield in League One making him the division's top scorer. Renowned for his finishing prowess, he has been linked with a number of Championship clubs.

Max Power (Tranmere), 21, midfielder
Not a car magazine, but the 21-year-old midfield sensation whose versatility and energy, flair and creativity are said to be interesting the likes of Rangers and Celtic. Whether the youngster is capable of the step-up from League Two only time will tell.

Joe Garner (Preston North End), 26, striker
Third top scorer in League One after chipping in with 11 goals, Garner is following up an impressive 2013/14 campaign where he scored 24 times in all competitions. Capable of the breathtaking with a knack for the flamboyant.

Ian Henderson (Rochdale), 29, striker
One of a free-scoring trio at Spotland this season, Henderson's goals have fired Keith Hill's men into play-off contention alongside those of Matty Done and Peter Vincenti.

Matty Grimes (Exeter), 19, midfielder
Actually linked with a £1m move to Swansea City earlier this month, Grimes is being talked up in some quarters as the new Glenn Hoddle. Exeter's director of football says he has never been as excited about a player as he has with Grimes.

Interesting to see what happens and who leaves and what kind of player Slade will look to bring in.

Ryan Taylor from Newcastle is out for a lengthy spell, sure he came back from his 2nd crucial knee injury only to go back off again with it after about 30mins of his return?

I hope , Annis, you are not expecting Tan to fork out for any players at all given the abuse he is receiving from our so-called supporters, including yourself, if I may say so.

Some intresting players on that list.

I saw Doyle play for Hibs in the SPL a few years ago. Nowhere near the quality we would be looking for IMO.

Re: ' CARDIFF CITY TRANSFER WINDOW '

Russell Slade is ready to move fast when the transfer window opens in January and the Bluebirds manager has confirmed: “There will be players coming in - and a number going out.”

Cardiff City must trim their squad with Magnus Eikrem, Guido Burgstaller, Javi Guerra, Nicky Maynard, Etien Velikonja and Jo Inge Berget, who will be back from a loan spell with Celtic in the new year, all needing regular playing time.

Juan Cala has already left after his contract was cancelled by mutual consent, while loan signing Ravel Morrison is back with West Ham.

The former Manchester United playmaker was due to stay with Cardiff until Boxing Day when he would have been available for their match at Charlton, but Morrison has been allowed to cut short his stay for personal reasons.

Sam Allardyce was asked whether Morrison has a future with the Hammers and said: “It’s difficult to say because obviously it hasn’t worked at Cardiff.

“We will have to look at the situation in the new year. My focus is not on Ravel. It is on my first team squad.”

Slade and Allardyce have talked about Morrison and the Cardiff manager said: “It’s been a difficult period for Ravel. His knee injury didn’t help his progress and I had a chat with Sam about him.”

The Bluebirds boss will put Morrison’s future out of his mind as he plans a new year clear-out - and plots who to bring in.
