Cristiano Ronaldo may be returning to Manchester after all - only it's not to Manchester United.

According to Sky Sports' Spanish football expert Graham Hunter, Manchester City players are increasingly 'confident' that their club will make a big money bid for the Real Madrid superstar this summer.

Ronaldo's future at the Bernabeu has been subject to speculation over the last few months, with Manchester United, their city rivals and Paris Saint Germain all linked with the Portugal captain.

But speaking this afternoon on Revista de La Liga, Hunter reported that Manchester City's players believe the £80m-rated Ronaldo could be their new teammate for the start of next season.

"I know that the players at Manchester City were talking very, very firmly that they believed there was a successful move coming from that club over the last couple of weeks.

Tell you what, after the treatment Gareth Bale has continued to receive at the hands of RM "fans", I wouldn't be surprised if he moved back to the UK in the Summer too. Interesting if he ended up opposing CR7!!

Liverpool, Arsenal target hints at Stoke City exit

By Shane Callaghan, Reporter
Last Updated: Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at 23:10 UK
Asmir Begovic has told Stoke City to give him a reason to extend his contract by proving their ambition during the summer transfer window.

The Bosnian goalkeeper has a little over 12 months to go on his existing deal, with Liverpool and Arsenal said to be monitoring his situation.

Negotiations are yet to get underway over an extension and the 27-year-old hints that he could be tempted to leave if manager Mark Hughes does not splash the cash during the off-season.

"You get to a certain age and stage in your career where you want to be part of a successful team pushing forward and we have the ambition to do that and keep the right players here, so we'll see how it works out," he told The Express.

"Part of the fun of playing under Mark Hughes is that he's trying take the club forward. He's changed a lot of things around for us and we've definitely enjoyed that. The whole structure he's put in place will benefit everybody.

"I've always been very settled and satisfied here. I've a year left on my contract and so I'm pretty calm with the situation. We will talk when the time is right and see if we can make it a long-term one."

Earlier this month Begovic said that he expects his contract situation to be resolved during the summer.

The Star on Sunday revert to type with another seemingly unlikely transfer story splashed on their back page.

According to this weekend’s paper, Manchester United could sign Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke for £25 million this summer.

The news comes out on the morning of Aston Villa’s FA Cup semifinal against Liverpool.

The Star report that Benteke impressed United boss Louis van Gaal in the Clarets recent defeat at Old Trafford. Benteke scored Villa’s lone goal in a 3-1 defeat.

Since Tim Sherwood has taken charge at Villa Park, Benteke has re-found his goal-touch with eight goals in his last six Premier League matches.

Whilst the Belgian international is in good form, however, it’s highly questionable that Man United would be keen to spend £25 million on the 24-year-old.

Benteke has two years left on his contract once this season is completed.

Swansea line up move for Blackburn striker Rudy Gestede
Club have regularly scouted Gestede over recent weeks and former Cardiff man took his goalscoring tally to 20 for the season in midweek

Swansea City are lining up a summer move for Blackburn Rovers top scorer Rudy Gestede as they plot how to finally try to replace Wilfried Bony in the summer.
Bony joined Manchester City in a £28 million deal in January, but Swansea decided to wait until the end of the season to reinvest part of the money in two new strikers.
Swansea have regularly scouted Gestede over recent weeks and the former Cardiff City man took his goalscoring tally in all competitions to 20 for the season by netting against Millwall on Tuesday night.
Crystal Palace could provide Swansea with competition for Gestede’s signature, having failed in a bid to sign the 26-year-old in January.
Swansea had also shown an interest in Jordan Rhodes, but it now seems his Rovers team-mate Gestede is the Welsh club’s number one summer target.
Gestede scored against Swansea in Blackburn’s FA Cup victory over the Premier League club in January and also proved his top-flight pedigree with a goal against Stoke City in the same competition.

Manchester United offer David de Gea £200,000-a-week to fend off Real Madrid interest

The Red Devils upped the terms from £150k a week to an eyewatering £10million a year - and the Spain keeper is happy to sign

Manchester United have increased the stakes in their tug-of-war with Real Madrid over David de Gea by offering him £200,000-a-week to stay.

United have improved their contract offer from £150,000 a week to an eyewatering £10million-a-year in an attempt to persuade De Gea to remain at Old Trafford.

De Gea, 24, is understood to be happy to sign the new contract offer, which would make him the best-paid goalkeeper in Britain, and commit his future to United.

De Gea has been United’s stand-out performer this season and they want him to agree a long-term deal.

West Ham join Swansea City in Rudy Gestede race, Mitrovic latest and could Joe Ledley really return to Cardiff City?

9 May 2015

By Gareth Rogers

As Swansea City start their search for a striker, one of their top targets is being chased by Premier League rivals West Ham United

Swansea City target Rudy Gestede is set to be the subject of a £7m bid from West Ham, which could force Garry Monk into transfer action earlier than he would like.

According to the Daily Mail, Hammers boss Sam Allardyce made an enquiry to Blackburn about the former Cardiff City striker yesterday.

Gestede had looked the perfect fit for the Swans after manager Monk admitted yesterday that he is unlikely to break the club's £12m transfer record this summer.

But MailOnline claim the Benin striker would prefer a move to London than one back to South Wales.

Those comments from the Swans boss made it appear less likely that Anderlecht striker Aleksandar Mitrovic will be coming to the Liberty, as he would cost around £15m.

Some sources had reported that relegation threatened Newcastle had tied up a deal for the Serb but that has again been rubbished by the Brussells based club.

This time, Belgian newspaper Nieuwsblad say Anderlecht manager Herman Van Holsbeeck reiterated that no deal had been struck with the Magpies because the player was concerned by their struggles on and off the pitch.

He is understood to prefer a team who will be playing European football next season, or at least have that as an ambition.

That could act as a carrot for the Swans to reel in seventh placed Southampton in the final three games to potentially seal a Europa League spot but Monk also revealed that he is not too worried about the prospect of missing out on another gruelling continental campaign.

Rudy Gestede (Blackburn): Could be worth a gamble at the right price

Finally, the Cardiff City messageboards have been excitedly debating the prospect of former star Joe Ledley coming back to South Wales .

The Wales midfielder has been a regular at Crystal Palace under Alan Pardew this season and played in the defeat at Chelsea last Sunday.

But all his family is still based in the Welsh capital and he is understood to have bought property in the city this year, but Vincent Tan would have to really back Russell Slade in the transfer market to make this one happen as it would cost at least £3m, but who knows?
