Jones is set to miss the Bluebirds’ next two matches after heading back to his homeland following a family tragedy

Cardiff City striker Kenwyne Jones is set to miss the Bluebirds’ next two matches after flying home to Trinidad following a family tragedy.

The news follows Jones’ personal tribute after he scored Cardiff’s third goal in the 3-1 win over Leeds United on Saturday.

The 30-year-old removed his shirt to reveal a message that read: “RIP Deshon and Chibbi”.

A Cardiff City statement read: “We would like to offer our sincere condolences to Kenwyne Jones following a family tragedy.

“We ask that Kenwyne and his family are given space and privacy at this difficult time.”

Jones is not expected to link back up with the Bluebirds until after the international break later this month and is extremely unlikely to be available for Tuesday’s trip to Bolton and Saturday’s visit to Birmingham.

The Bluebirds striker has found himself out of the starting XI since Russell Slade's appointment despite scoring six goals so far this season.

2-0 up, then 2-1, and the game is looking a bit more tricky. Kenwyne clinched the win for us. His hard workk, pressurising the keeper and defender into a mistake, got his goal. Once the two goal margin was restored, we were comfortable.

We'll miss Kenwyne for these couple of games, but his family comes first.

Thoughts are with you KJ.

Must of took lot of courage and strength for him to still be involved today even though he wanted to be on the first plane back home.

The goal was fitting for him, nice celebration. With Tonteg on the booking, the rule is there and nothing you can do. Should be overturned.

Cardiff City's Kenwyne Jones flies home after "family tragedy"

Cardiff City could be without striker Kenwyne Jones for Tuesday's Championship match against Bolton Wanderers after he flew home to Trinidad and Tobago following a "family tragedy".

Jones took off his shirt after scoring Cardiff's third in the 3-1 win over Leeds United yesterday to reveal a message that said "RIP Deshon + Chibbi".

Last night he tweeted: "Thanks everyone much love."

Cardiff said in a statement on their website: "Following a family tragedy, we ask that Kenwyne and his family are given space and privacy at this difficult time."

Jones, 30, has scored six goals in 13 Championship appearances for the Bluebirds this season.

I understand that Dando, but Billy Sharp was allowed to take his shirt off to reveal a "RIP son" message when his new born son passed away. Common sense prevailed there, getting punished with a booking for something like that is absolutely pathetic imo.

It is, I hope the rule gets overturned one day.

POLICE in Trinidad have arrested a man in connection with the killing of two of former Stoke City striker Kenwyne Jones’ cousins.

Officers on the Caribbean island confirmed that a man is in custody over the shooting of Deshon Sobers, aged 21, and her 24-year-old brother Trevon Sobers.

The footballer, who now plays for Cardiff City, returned to Trinidad after Saturday's game against Leeds where he unveiled a T-shirt tribute, that read ‘RIP Deshon and Chibbi’ after he scored his team's third goal.

Local media reported that the cousins were shot in a house in Chaguanas two weeks earlier. Two other relatives, a brother of the cousins, and an uncle were also injured.
