" RUSSELL SLADES REACTION FROM TODAY "

RUSSELL SLADE BBC REPORT :thumbright:

Cardiff manager Russell Slade: "It was a bit of a non-event of a first half in many ways, with not much in it and not too many chances. I don't think anyone expected that in the second half: four goals and an entertaining game.
"The players put a really good shift in, and particularly in the second half we needed to find a little bit more energy, a little bit more intensity.
"We found that and the front two (Adam Le Fondre and Federico Macheda) led by example.
"The game was always a worry for me. They (Leeds) are very unpredictable in the way they play.
"They've got some talented players, so it was important for us to be compact and keep our discipline

Slade praised his side after they downed Neil Redfearn's men, but the Cardiff boss is already looking ahead to Tuesday's trip to Bolton

Russell Slade praised his Cardiff City side for raising their game to keep his 100% home record going - but warned they can't ignore their away issues if they want to push up the table.

Slade's Bluebirds moved to within three points of the play-off spots with their 3-1 win over Leeds in a scrappy game at Cardiff City Stadium.

They could inch into the top six with a win at relegation-threatened Bolton on Tuesday, but will have to get over their winless time on the road this term.

A fourth successive success at home makes it six from eight and a total of 18 points earned in South Wales - in stark contrast to the meagre four picked up on the road.

And Slade, whose side head to Birmingham next week, said: “We have had a great start, particularly at home – but now we have to address our away form."

He added: “Home form can be key but away from home has been our Achilles heel so we know we need to get it right.

“There are fine lines in this league and we know it will be tough because we're facing another side with a new manager which makes it unpredictable.

“But we have targeted to try and get an away win in the next week.”

Cardiff might need to do more than they offered here, certainly in the first-half that Slade conceded was a non-event.

But a slight raise in standards after the break was enough for the Bluebirds as Bruno Manga headed home the opener on 61 minutes before Federico Macheda's deflected 67 minute strike, Kenwyne Jones adding an 83 minute third after Alex Mowatt's effort for the visitors six minutes earlier.

We'd do well to get into the top 6 Tuesday night what with being four points behind and all.
