Goals from Bruno Manga, Federico Macheda and Kenwyne Jones got Cardiff City back to winning ways against Leeds United

Cardiff City earned a fourth successive Championship home victory and their third under manager Russell Slade with a convincing win over troubled Leeds United

Bruno Manga made the big breakthrough for Cardiff, guiding a header into the corner from 15 yards after 61 minutes before Federico Macheda and substitute Kenwyne Jones sealed the win either side of a goal from Alex Mowatt.

The opener came after Leeds had cleared a corner, but Craig Noone lifted the ball back in and Sean Morrison was strong as he beat two Leeds players in the air and headed across goal. Manga was in position to steer the ball home.

Macheda made it 2-0 just six minutes later when he went for goal from 20 yards. The ball struck a defender, bounced down into the ground and up over the keeper into goal.

That was Macheda’s third goal in the last four games and he went off soon after with Jones, fit again after a foot injury, taking over.

Mowatt gave Leeds hope on 78 minutes, but Jones wrapped up the points when he chased through and won possession from goalkeeper Marco Silvestri to slot home into the empty net.

Manager Russell Slade named the same starting line-up for a third successive match, keeping faith with the team who had lost at Millwall a week earlier.

Peter Whittingham and Adam Le Fondre were both in good form for City, while Aron Gunnarsson worked hard to break up Leeds attacks.

Adam Le Fondre was man of the match for Cardiff, causing Leeds big problems with his tireless runs and good movement. Manga Morrison and Whittingham were among others to catch the eye.

The Bluebirds now travel to Bolton on Tuesday.

Leeds United: Silvestri, Warnock, Bellusci, Pearce (capt), Berardi (Byram 85), Bianchi (Sloth 75), S Morison, Cook, Mowatt, Doukara, Antenucci. Subs not used: Taylor (gk), Tonge, Dawson, Montenegro, Cooper.

CARDIFF CITY 3 LEEDS UNITED 1

Saturday 1st Nov 2014

Cardiff overcame Leeds to consign Neil Redfearn to defeat in his first match as the visitors' permanent manager.

Bruno Ecuele Manga and Federico Macheda put Cardiff 2-0 up before Alex Mowatt halved the deficit.

But Kenwyne Jones took advantage of a dreadful mix-up in the Leeds defence to give Cardiff boss Russell Slade a third victory from his first four matches.
Leeds, who announced Redfearn's appointment less than 90 minutes before kick-off, are winless in seven games.

Redfearn previously had a successful spell as caretaker boss earlier this season, picking up three wins and a draw from his four matches at the helm.
His appointment came after Darko Milanic's brief tenure, and the first game of Redfearn's full-time reign came against a Cardiff team who had also endured their fair share of upheaval this season.
Including caretaker managers, Cardiff and Leeds have had seven people in charge between them in this campaign.
Having struggled for stability off the pitch, neither team played with much fluency on the field in an untidy first half.
There were a handful of half-chances for either team before the break. Peter Whittingham's curling free-kick was saved by Marco Silvestri, while Wales striker Steve Morison headed over from Leeds' best opportunity of the opening 45 minutes.
The second half began with tempers flaring and tackles flying in, and Cardiff seized on the hostile atmosphere to take the lead after an hour.
It was the hosts' two centre-backs who combined for the goal, Sean Morrison heading across goal for Ecuele Manga to nod in his first goal for Cardiff.
Slade's side doubled their lead six minutes later, as Macheda's shot took a big deflection off Jason Pearce and bounced high into the net.
Victory seemed secure for Cardiff at this point but, against the run of play, their advantage was cut in half as Mowatt fired in a fierce shot.
Leeds' hopes of a comeback were undermined by their own farcical defending, however, as indecision between Silvestri and Giuseppe Bellusci allowed substitute Jones to slot into an empty net and ease Cardiff's nerves.

Cardiff manager Russell Slade: "It was a bit of a non-event of a first half in many ways, with not much in it and not too many chances. I don't think anyone expected that in the second half: four goals and an entertaining game.
"The players put a really good shift in, and particularly in the second half we needed to find a little bit more energy, a little bit more intensity.
"We found that and the front two (Adam Le Fondre and Federico Macheda) led by example.
"The game was always a worry for me. They (Leeds) are very unpredictable in the way they play.
"They've got some talented players, so it was important for us to be compact and keep our discipline

Neil Redfearn's first game as the permanent Leeds manager ended in a 3-1 defeat as Cardiff continued their revival under Russell Slade.

Bruno Manga's first Cardiff goal and Federico Macheda's strike put the Bluebirds in control.

Alex Mowatt gave Leeds hope by pulling one back 13 minutes from time, but Kenwyne Jones made the points safe when he pounced on a defensive mix up to slot home his sixth goal of the season.

Cardiff: Marshall, Brayford, Ecuele Manga, Morrison, Fabio, Pilkington (Ralls, 45), Gunnarsson, Whittingham, Noone, Macheda (Jones, 75), Le Fondre (Morrison, 81)

Redfearn's full-time appointment was confirmed prior to kick-off, with the 49-year-old handed an initial 12-month contract with an option for a further year or a return to his academy duties once that period is over.

He is already the third manager to take the helm of the Yorkshire club this season, and Leeds fans will hope he can have the sort of stabilising effect Slade has had at Cardiff.

Bluebirds fans will have some sympathy with the current plight of their Leeds counterparts given the headlines their club has had to endure under Vincent Tan's ownership.

But they are back on track after three wins out of four under Slade, moving them to the brink of the play-off places.

While United showed no lack of fight, Cardiff had the better of the opening exchanges and rarely threatened to relinquish control.

As early as the 11th minute Marco Silvestri had to get down low to his left to keep out Peter Whittingham's free-kick, with the keeper also clawing away Anthony Pilkington's header from under his own bar.

Adam Le Fondre twice failed to make the most of good deliveries from Whittingham, glancing two headers well wide of the target, while Macheda's shot was well blocked by Guiseppe Bellusci after John Brayford had led a sharp Cardiff break.

The second half settled into the same pattern and it was no surprise when Cardiff took the lead.

Leeds failed to clear a cross and when Sean Morrison headed Craig Noone's cross back across goal, Manga was there to direct the ball into the bottom corner.

Six minutes later and the points looked secure when Macheda drove forward and powered his third goal in four games into the top corner, with the help of a deflection off Jason Pearce's boot.

But Leeds found a way back into the game when Doukara got away from Fabio and picked out Mowatt for the midfielder to fire an angled drive across Marshall.

However, any hope of a comeback was sunk when a mix-up between Silvestri and Bellusci allowed Jones a simple finish.
