Whitts proving so many people wrong yet again

Tue Oct 21, 2014 10:19 pm

Well done Pete, once again proving our hugely fickle fanbase wrong.

Two superb performances in the middle of the park, but looking forward to him missing a header/ backing out of a challenge at Milwall and the fans turning on him again.

A man who has twice been forced off Twitter due to fan abuse, also booed off the pitch at home to Nowrich last year.

No coincidence has played a pivotal role in the team since we have a manager who plays two mobile strikers who make intelligent runs. Keeping the ball well as a team again, and it's all going through Whitts.

Respect for never coming out in the press about managers, forcing a move or speaking out against a fan base which has treated him unfairly after being such a loyal service.

I have been backing Whitts every step, every game.. nobody appreciates what he does which is the same with KJ.

It seems like some our supporters have no real clue about Football and the technical ability of some players.

Like we had people saying KJ should be chasing balls down 24/7, making runs behind the defence and all that when that's not the type of player he is.

Same with Whitts where people have knocked him for not making crunching tackles, not being quick and all that.. it's like people forget what type of player Whitts is. Every player in positions have their big attributes like take Daelhi.. great bit of passing, good feet, good dribbling but not gifted with pace.

Whittingham since he has been here has been known for being a set piece specialist, someone who keeps playing going spreading the ball back or forward and got an eye for a 40 yard pass with a great left foot.

He has had trouble with confidence.. I don't know if he takes it upon himself sometimes during the game to try and dictate play but under MM he was instructed to do the dirty work which we all know isn't Whitts.

It's annoying the game has become so over technical that managers are using players not to their ability. We had Ole playing Le Fondre and Maynard on the wings? We had Macheda on the wing once which is weird because I remember once where Everton done it with Lukaku v Arsenal and he tore them a new one and now it seems like managers are playing people like Whitts for example as a CDM where we know he is someone who is a natural CM.

Cracking goal tonight, in fact all 4 of his goals have been unreal strikes.. I don't think us fans will see players produce goals of that quality every season.

I'll be honest I've criticised him myself for various reasons but I have always maintained he is at his best when allowed to dictate games and that only happens in the system you mentioned above where he gets space to do his thing and get much higher up the pitch

I think his best years were under jones who also liked a rigid 4-4-2 with mobile strikers opening space up for whitts to run riot

Seems slade is doing similar and whitts will continue to shine as long as Gunnar as doing the donkey work in behind and he's done a fantastic job last two games as well

Great post!! :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I am guilty of believing he is past his best, then he come out with 2 excellent games that make me think again. Totally correct about his attitude, a great pro and loyal servant of the club.

I wouldn't say he is proving to many people wrong, think most people could see he was poor in a defensive role and knew he would perform better in a role further forward.

Hopefully we now have the team structure to support him and get the best from him unlike Malky and ole could.

Agree with you. Those who were saying that he isn't good enough were clearly wrong.

Those who were saying that he was struggling with poor for, though, were right.. he was struggling.

He appears to be blossoming under this new style of play though and being given the role he has been. Long may it continue.

I've criticised him massively in the past but he has been great recently

Long may it continue :ayatollah:

He is now playing in a position and a formation that suits him. Its not rocket science.

I think the same can be said for Gunnar

However - the issue I and others have had was consistency which just hasn't been there - and a handful of games playing to or above expectations is a step in the right direction - but would still like to see a few more good performances.

Peter Whittingham splits Cardiff City fan base more than any player: Paul Abbandonato defends criticism of Bluebirds star

In the wake of criticism in my column, Cardiff City's midfield talisman was brilliant against Nottingham Forest and Ipswich, then totally anonymous during the defeat at Millwall. He still divides opinion more than any other player.

No footballer at Cardiff City, it’s fair to say, splits the fan base right at this moment in time more than Peter Whittingham.

You’ve only got to look at the response to my ‘Leave out Whitts’ suggestion of a few weeks ago for evidence of that.

The responses flooded in, ranging from “Drop Whitts, are you nuts?” to “About time someone had the guts to write what the fans have been saying for ages.”

Everyone has a view on football. Debate and opinion rages.

And with Whittingham at the moment it seems to be black or white, with very little in between.

A bit, I guess you could say, like his own performances recently.
