Try the sandmartin cos you might have trouble finding the sandpiper & it's just as good

They do some reasonable meals there although the choice is restricted on match day. The Carvary is excellent value and very tasty.
Enjoy!

Over priced, over cooked and over heated food from my only visit.
Should go for another look to see if it was just a bad day for them.

Everyone I know that doesn't go to cardiff games assumes that its the roughest pub on our planet, just because its so close to the stadium.

Been there a few times, typical carvery, hungry horse, brewers fayre set up. Foods OK,,,,beers better.
More of a family oriented (no pun intended) establishment. Marks out of ten,,,3!

Casino is a much better option. Tried the Sand Martin but was told we had to buy a meal so thought f**k it and went for a nice pint. Plus the boys I go with like a bit of a gamble on the blackjack.

Annis I used to work there.. It's a decent pub, offering a match day menu which is just a shorter version of their main menu so they can get the food out quick enough to suit the demand. Due to licensing restrictions u have to buy a meal in order to have a drink (this has to be ordered at the sametime, so u can't have a drink until u order food), they then issue u a receipt to produce at the bar when u want more drinks (u can then have as much as u like) as it's a proof of purchase.. They serve in glass, and don't increase their prices.(have the small carvery think £3.99 and the cheapest option) Also due to licensing the patio is closed, and no vertical drinking (no standing). It's got one of the strictest licences in cardiff. I was there for 2 and half years and only 2 bits of trouble during that time. It was one Wales game and the other was Cardiff v West Ham.
Speak to Carl or Mallo as they have been there. Give ur a go

I hate these modern pub chains "you have to buy a meal to buy a pint".

Read my post.
Nothing to do with the pub chain, it's a license restriction imposed by the police and the council. In order for them to be able to sell alcohol on a match day that is how they have to do it.. Believe me the company don't like it but that's what they had to agree to in order to obtain the licence..
Not sure if official figures but think out something like 10home arrests in 3 - 4 seasons yet the pub is restricted that badly. Ridiculous really

Won't let you drink unless you buy food on a match day

Just goes to show it's always worth making your own decision.
Going by the revues on here I'd of swerved it big time

Yeah, I was a bit surprised by the negative reviews but then I wasn't at the same time. It depends what you want from a pre-match pub. If you just want to stand, have a pint and a chat then it won't be for you in my opinion. If you fancy some food and are happy to sit and chat with a few drinks then it's not bad at all.
I've not had a bad meal there. It's not mind-blowing food but for the price you pay it's decent value. Horses for courses as the saying goes though.
