Given James Masters has reported that there's interest from both our ends I would take that as gospel, was bang on the money about our pre season signings and the first to report Slade was not being sacked after our draw at Notts County.
OrientFan

Slade has done a good job here at Orient. Saved us from the drop when he came in, and in three of his four full seasons we've achieved a top ten finish, working with a relatively small squad and without spending a transfer fee. The football in general has been attractive, last season we got to the play off final playing some fantastic stuff.

He seems to excel at man management, a trademark of his Orient teams has been a fantastic team spirit - he was meticulous with his signings this season, trying to bring in players who will compliment the team spirit.

True, we have not started off as well as we'd have liked, but his record this season in all competitions reads W. 4, D.5, L.2, including a win at Villa Park; hardly sack worthy. The fans, and the squad it would seem are 100% behind him, the only reason for a managerial change is that we have been taken over by Francesco Becchetti, a billionaire who in all likelihood wants his own man in charge. The fact we're talking about sacking Slade is ludicrous.

A few seasons ago Barnsley came in for him when they sacked Robins, but Barry Hearn turned down the approach. The only reason he hasn't managed in the Championship is that he hasn't had the opportunity, in my mind he would be more than fine. League One manager of the season twice, taking us and Yeovil to play off finals when in reality we were both competing against teams with larger budgets around us; it comes down to fine lines. If we've beaten Rotherham on penalties in the play off final last season, he'd be a Championship manager. If Yeovil had beaten Blackpool (after they knocked out Forest in two legs), he'd be a Championship manager.

I hope he doesn't go to Cardiff, he is statistically our best manager in the last 40 years and the most popular I have seen. If he does best of luck to him and yourselves for the season, I think he has earned a shot at the Championship.

Must admit, I don't know much about him, but that assessment sounds promising. If Russell Slade does come here, I hope that we all get behind him. Least he deserves.

A very interesting read. His man management & team bonding read like, dare I say it,,Malky Mackay.

Also worked we'll on a tight budget. I like the sound of this guy.

A much better appointment than Ole in my opinion :thumbright: :ayatollah:

We would need to have patience with him and give him time :ayatollah:

Perhaps he's the breath of fresh air this club needs.
He sounds like a passionate guy who only accepts 100% from his players.
Couple that with the undoubted talent we have in our squad and, you never know,
Things could improve very quickly :bluescarf:
Certainly, if the fans get behind him, he'll have a much better chance of success !

He sounds more like a save jones than a Malky mackay
Play off final twice league 1 manager of the year twice plays good attractive football with no money to spend
I'm starting to warm to this guy only time will tell

Annis, you didn't sound very confident about Slade yesterday even stating you will support the club but did not mention the new manager, Many on here going a tad overboard with the negativity, even cutting their season ticket up!! After reading that report from an Orient fan and some other views do you now believe we should give him our full support ? My view is he gets full backing and even better if he's not a big name manager as he sounds like the man we need to shake a few of our prima donnas up.

I concur, good read on Slade there. I like everyone else see all the managers available and would like to see a big name and someone exciting at the helm but I have to agree with Tan. My support will outlive any managers reign and so I will always go with what is best for the club. Right now what is best for the club?? Someone with proven man management skills and not too costly. Look at how much we have spent in compensation for our last two managers. Does the club need to hire a big name on a big wage with no guarantees and if it doesn't work out we then have to pay more compensation? ? It makes no business sense to do this when you look at the squad we have. Our squad with the right man management can and will get promotion :ayatollah: we need someone who will pick up these players, give them belief, kick them up the arse (Macheda) and not play 4 central midfielders in the midfield 4 at the same time. That was my biggest complaint of Ole. He tried to accommodate too many players and picked them out of their natural positions and these players often went wandering. Dhaeli is a talent but he was always stuck out wide and he always wanders looking for the ball and when the ball came to where he was supposed to be he was hardly ever there. Whenever we have tried to switch the side of play of late it goes over to the full back and then they have nobody in front of them and we lose any kind of momentum. I digress too much. Slade, it all reads well. It makes business sense. I will support him if he comes on board as will 99.9% of the fans. :ayatollah:

So, it looks like we are going for an experienced manager with a track record of success on a shoestring, who's strengths are motivation and organisation. Pulis-lite ?

He lost some key players in the summer and wasn't given funds to replace them and although they are 17th they have a game in hand, which if they win would put them 1 point off the play-offs. I saw them a couple of times last year on TV and they looked a really decent side.

I'll certainly be looking to see how he does before judging.

Pulis would have been my choice, but if not then its good to see a successful lower division manager given a shot. Let's not forget for a bit of luck in a penalty shoot out 4 months ago, they would be in the Championship now.

If he comes I just hope our fans give him a chance. Look into his record and you might be pleasantly surprised.

Perhaps because he's not perceived as a so called big name, we have already dismissed him as not good enough. But his record all be it in lower divisions is very good. As far as not playing professional football , well it didn't stop Mourinio or Wenger being successful ( not comparing him to them ) .
We should as a fan base get behind the new manager who ever he is .

Russell Slade has managerial experience and done well at Orient, the only concern is that he has never managed at our level but we should all get behind him :bluescarf: :bluescarf:

As in life, everyone deserves an opportunity and some time to prove themselves regardless if you would of preferred someone else!

A good read up, I watched Orient in the play-off semi and looked good. There results were excellent last season and play good football :bluescarf: :bluescarf:

I haven't cut it up yet still awaiting a pathetic decision by Tan :)

I will not belittle Slade and his abilities because they prove he deserves a Championship shot.

The talk is of a DoF / Coach set up something that does not work over here and basically makes the coach unable to make decisions.

So if you get a coach who is outspoken you get a bad atmosphere between Owner/DoF & Coach.

You only stop this by getting a coach grateful for the chance and willing to shut his mouth when the decisions are made about his team.

We need a manager who has full control if Slade gets that it is a move in the right direction.

The rebrand does not affect the game that I watch but now Tan is making footballing decisions based on the opinions of people out of work and with ulterior motives for their opinions

Generally agree. People seem to forget that Ole was seen as a saviour as as he had a "big name" not many feared he would fail. Well he did, completely and without the merest hint of attacking football or any kind of style.

I'm not sure how slade can do any worse. I would have gone for the likes of pulis, Lennon or even Robinson but this guy may just surprise everyone. I'll let results decide, not where he comes from or his past. After all, I support the club first and foremost :ayatollah:

How many more chances are we going to give these new managers
Slades not proven in the Championship let alone the premiership if we
get there. I personally dont eant a lower div manager anywhere near our club.

Is he going to get it though? If we lose a couple of games there will be a lot of hate going his way (see booing and abuse of OGS at Middlesbrough) and pressure to sack him before he's had the chance to get into it and choose a team properly. Who knows if OGS would have a set team from the 8th game onwards? Same thing here, will Slade get longer than 7 games to prove himself? Or will we end up with 6/7 managers this season because of incompatability with Tan and the club's 'philosophy'?

Just been nosing on lofc forum and they don't want him to go....
But
Mainly as they think he's not up to it and will be ridiculed and sacked. They also question if he's the kind if bloke that could work under VT so maybe not the yes man type?

can remember him managing my old home town club Grimsby town years ago.
Has a wealth of football league experience, would be a decent appointment in my opinion

Dont get it in appointing slade theres more experienced managers out there who no what it takes at this level id be looking at dematio clark or pulis over slade any day.

Another yes man in my eyes and a very strange appointment in my opinion.

I really hope im wrong but I think tan will do what he wants anyway.
We lack a philosophy consistency and structure and any one of those managers would bring those things to the club. Slade is another gamble in my eyes a gamble which must work otherwise we could be in free fall with huge debts.

I would play it safe and employ a tried and tested manager for the good of the future of ccfc.

I believe tan cant work with big mangers as they are not yes men which we all no tan loves.

A huge step up for slade with massive expectation he will have to hit the floor at a sprint to win the fans over.

Don't get it all tan is no football man and it shows but he want take advice ether but he choosing are management team.

Im concerned big time good luck to slade I mean that but it odd.
