MARK HUDSON LEAVES CITY

AND SENDS A MESSAGE TO CITY FANS viewtopic.php?f=2&t=146816 :ayatollah:

Cardiff City centre back signs two year deal with the Terriers

He is a leader with vast experience of the Championship"
Mark Lillis

Huddersfield Town has bolstered its defensive options ahead of the 11pm transfer deadline with the signing of Cardiff City Captain Mark Hudson for a nominal undisclosed fee.

The 32 year-old was Captain at his three previous clubs – Crystal Palace, Charlton Athletic and still at Cardiff City ahead of his move – and has played over 300 games in the Sky Bet Championship and Premier League.

Imposing centre back Hudson has signed a two year contract at ‘The Yorkshire Club’ and will wear squad number four during the 2014/15 season.

Huddersfield Town’s Caretaker Manager Mark Lillis commented:

“The Club has stayed patient to bring in the right man to improve the central defensive options and that has been rewarded with this arrival of Mark this evening.

“Organisation and experience are very important attributes in the heart of your defence and Mark has both in abundance. He is a leader with vast experience of the Championship and is a massive arrival for this football club.

“There are not many centre backs of his type and quality around; he can be a hugely influential addition.

“Huge credit has to go to the staff behind the scenes for getting this deal over the line amid considerable competition from some big clubs in this division; it’s testament to the ambition at Huddersfield Town.”

A player with 365 career appearances to his name, Surrey-born Mark started his career in the Fulham Academy, going onto make a handful of League Cup appearances for the Club amid loan spells at Oldham Athletic and Crystal Palace.

Right-sided centre half Hudson played a big role at Selhurst Park as the Eagles gained promotion to the Premier League in 2004 and then signed permanently for Palace, where he became Club Captain.

After four seasons played in the Premier League and Championship, Mark moved across London to join fellow Championship club Charlton Athletic in the summer of 2008. Once again, he was made Captain at his new Club.

Hudson played just one season at the Valley before Dave Jones took him to Cardiff City in the summer of 2009, where he was immediately handed the captaincy once again.

He was a key figure in the Bluebirds’ defence as they came close to promotion in the next two seasons, but he eventually led the side to Premier League promotion as Championship winners in the 2012/13 campaign. Mark was named Cardiff’s ‘Player of the Year’ in the promotion campaign and soon signed a contract extension at the Club running until the summer of 2015.

Mark was Cardiff Captain for the 2014/15 season and played the full 90 minutes in Cardiff’s 3-1 win over Town in Wales in mid-August; one of three Championship starts he’s made this season.

Maybe the injuries will continue, don't know but one of DJ's best signings. He got better every season and was incredible in the season we went up. Top pro and never once complained when he got dropped. I thought v Blackburn and Huddersfield he looked like the Huds of old. :notworthy:

You only needed to see his twitter to see that he really did enjoy being here and he had his kid born here in Wales also. Always interacting with the youngsters in the squad also. Had the pleasure of meeting him and one of the most proper genuine people I've known to play for this club, done a lot of work off the pitch with the club.

Was hoping he would stay for one more season but maybe it's best for him to move on. I thought he wouldn't be the same after his injury but his 2 games showed he still got it and if he stays fit a great signing for Huddersfield IMO and will sort them out.

The goal v Derby will live long in the memory.. :ayatollah:

Experienced player at this level and a good head to have in the dressing room even if not playing. Would have rathered he stayed but he obviously wants first team football.

Was a rock for us the last time we were in this league and when he was out of the side he was missed. Still think he would be a valuable member of the squad.

Good luck Mark :ayatollah:

An absolute credit to the club and himself. I wish him all the very best (apart from when he plays against us). No surprise with the number of central defenders we now have.

Would have liked Hudson to have stayed as he would have been great back up and would also have been very influential in the dressing room. I think however he wants regular first team football which is totally understandable, he really was very good for us and was inspirational in winning promotion to the Premiership.

Having met him on a couple of occasions he was very approachable and always had time for the fans I wish him all the very best at Huddersfield and thank him for his time with us :old: :bluescarf: :ayatollah:

Top professional, and a top bloke. Met him once, when the players came into Velindre hospital, (where I was working at the time), a few Christmases ago. He was very obviously the captain and leader. Very upbeat and friendly. A credit to the club, to himself, and to his family.

Pity that his last act for us was that own goal at Wolves, but even then, he came over to the fans, and held his hands up. No hiding, or sulking off. Mark Hudson was man enough to face the disappointed fans.

Best of luck at Huddersfield Town, Mark.

Is Anthony Gerrard still there?

Huddersfield Town complete signing of Cardiff City defender Mark Hudson in deadline-day deal
Sep 01, 2014

By Tom Marshall-Bailey

The Terriers concluded a move for the experienced Bluebirds stopper as they bolstered their defensive ranks in the final throes of the transfer window

Mark Hudson has completed his move from Cardiff City to Huddersfield Town

Huddersfield Town have beaten the transfer deadline to land experienced Cardiff City centre-back and captain Mark Hudson.

The arrival of the 32-year-old is a major boost as the Championship club try to stem a heavy goals concession rate - 13 in five league games and 18 in seven in all competitions.

Hudson has signed a two-year deal after ending a five-year stay in the Welsh capital, where he played alongside new Town teammate Anthony Gerrard.

He began his career at Fulham, who have also being showing an interest, and also played for Crystal Palace and Charlton Athletic.

Cardiff paid more than £1m to sign him, and he played a key role in the side who won promotion to the Premier League in 2013.

At the start of that promotion season, he spoiled Town's big Championship return by scoring a late winner in the opening game in South Wales.

Guildford-born Hudson also featured in Cardiff's 3-1 home win over Town earlier this season and was contracted through to 2015.

The transfer of the six footer for a nominal fee got the nod after Cardiff signed Gabon international centre-back Bruno Ecuele Manga from French side Lorient.

Boss Ole Gunnar Soskjaer has also brought in Danny Gabbidon and recently recruited former Town loan defender Sean Morrison from Reading.

Town have been trying to bring in a seasoned centre-back since the end of last season, and Hudson certainly seems to fit the bill.

He will compete with the likes of Gerrard, Lee Peltier, Joel Lynch, Murray Wallace and Tommy Smith for a berth.

Hudson becomes Town's fourth new arrival since the start of the season after on-loan Liverpool right-back Jack Robinson and midfielders Conor Coady and Jacob Butterfield.

Suggestions that new Crystal Palace boss Neil Warnock was keen to land Peltier, his skipper at Leeds United, appear to have been wide of the mark.

Funny reading all these lovely messages having remembered all the abuse he got in his first couple of seasons. He certainly proved a lot of people wrong. He did well for us over the years and as a great captain.

Can't help but feel it's the right time to move him on though.
