' LATEST ON CITY'S INJURED PLAYERS '

Tue Jul 29, 2014 3:16 pm

Cardiff City are hopeful goalkeeper David Marshall will be fit for their opening Championship clash of the season at Blackburn Rovers on Friday week - but centre-half Ben Turner is extremely doubtful.

Marshall suffered a dislocated finger on his left hand during Cardiff’s 4-1 win at Yeovil on Sunday. The joint was put back into place by club doctor Len Nokes before his damaged finger was strapped.

X-rays have shown there is no serious damage, although the finger is swollen, and Marshall could yet be ready to face Blackburn, although he is rated ‘touch and go’.

The 6ft 4ins Joe Lewis, who missed the match at Yeovil because his wife is expecting a baby soon, would step in if Marshall was ruled out, with Simon Moore among the substitutes.

Turner was also taken off during the first half at Huish Park after rolling an ankle and he could well miss the trip to Blackburn. Mark Hudson, Matt Connolly and Juan Cala will share the central defensive duties against German club Wolfsburg at Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday (3pm).

Striker Federico Macheda is having treatment on a minor back problem and was rested at Yeovil, but he should be available against Wolfsburg.
