Cardiff v Chasetown Tonight

Tue Jul 29, 2014 11:54 am

Anyone heading down to this tonight?

Get a chance to see and sit in the new stand, and see some of the younger players. Supposedly Mason, Harris, Healey and maybe Macheda playing.

I think it's all DVP players Luke, but Tommy Sullivan, Ohilaja and Kadeem Harris in particular appear to be playing well!

Good through ball by Sullivan and a lovely finish by Harris on 11 minutes to make it 1-0!

Cardiff City young guns defeat Chasetown 3-0 as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer watches on -

Adedeji Oshilaja, a powerful centre-half who has had loans spells with Newport County and Sheffield Wednesday, was given a new midfield role during Cardiff City’s pre-season fixture against Chasetown.

He patrolled in front of the back four, working to break up attacks launched by the visitors at Cardiff City Stadium. ‘Deji’ was solid in a job performed by Craig Dikgacoi and Gary Medel at first team level, although he was almost made to pay when Chasetown’s Jazz Luckie robbed him and fired against the bar during the second half.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer watched from the main stand as Cardiff’s development team players took on Northern Premier League opposition.

He was keen to take another look at Danny Johnson, a powerfully built 21-year-old striker who is on trial with Cardiff after firing 56 goals in 51 appearances for another Northern Premier League club, Guisborough, last season.

When these two clubs met, in an FA Cup tie during 2007-08, Aaron Ramsey made his first Bluebirds start and scored, along with Peter Whittingham and Paul Parry.

Cardiff won 3-1, went on to reach the final, and they have had strong links with Staffordshire club Chasetown ever since.
During this latest clash, lively winger Kadeem Harris put Cardiff ahead after 16 minutes, collecting a pass from captain Tommy O’Sullivan inside the penalty area and producing a delicate chip which left Chasetown keeper John Bateman helpless.

Theo Wharton went close with a curling shot which went just wide, while Bradley Williams added a second for the Bluebirds with a fierce low shot from 20 yards which took a deflection and flew into the far corner.

It was Johnson who scored a third for Cardiff after 72 minutes, thumping his shot home from 20 yards after good link-up play between O’Sullivan and Jazzi Barnum-Bobb.

Cardiff City: C Horton (B Wilson 45), K Owen, D Tutonda (J Barnum-Bobb 71), B Williams (D Griffiths 56), J Yorwerth, C Watkins (T James 71), K Harris (M Southam 79). A Oshilaja (A Bell 79), D Johnson (T Roche 79), T O’Sullivan, capt (B Watkins 79), T Wharton (J Bowen 79).

Chasetown: J Bateman, J Johnson, D Ravenhill, C Slater (capt), T Robinson, L Downes, L Bottomer, L Parsons, N Wellecombe, J Nadat, R Davies. Subs: T Evans, G Beckett, M McDonald, L Butler, R Stephens, N Waite, J Luckie, C Pond (gk), C Franco.

Referee: Richard Harrington (Aberdare).
