Inter Agree Fee with Cardiff City for Gary Medel

Wednesday 23rd July 2014

Inter have thrashed out a fee with English Championship side Cardiff City to sign Chile international Gary Medel.

The midfielder, who can also operate in defence, has been looking to leave Cardiff following their relegation from the Premier League at the end of last season.

A number of clubs have been interested, but it appears Inter are now close to winning the race.

Representatives from the Italian giants jetted into the UK recently and have managed to agree a fee with Cardiff for the Chilean.

According to Sky Italia, Inter have agreed to pay Cardiff €7m plus bonuses for Medel.

Now though the next round of negotiations must be settled, with disagreement over the parties over the payment structure of the fee.

Nevertheless, Inter are now strongly tipped to push through the deal and snap Medel up.

Yes, and after a good WC performance - something not right there.

Just glad he'll finally be going.

Last thing we needed was him training with the team when they got back from Austria, especially with the good team spirit we now have. Get the Medel and Campbell deals sorted by the end of the week.

We never paid £11m for him, that would ony get to that figure with loads of addons, now that he is leaving the addons do not come into effect. This is all paper talk and most of it from the very reliable Italian press (Inter) :laughing6: we will not be losing money on the deal, and I am sure that we will have added addons/bonuses ourselves :thumbright:

I think it was £11m + add ons up to £13m or even £15m, can't remember the exact figure.

Inter were always going to get their way. We can't afford to be paying such big wages in the championship, especially for a DMC

Don't forget we paid £8.5m for a useless striker who was so crap we sold him back for £3m months later. We're not very good at the transfer market when we got money.

Inter Milan have reached an agreement with Cardiff City to sign midfielder Gary Medel.

Despite earlier reports that Inter wanted to loan Medel first with money paid for a permanent transfer later, the deal is to buy Medel outright and is thought to be worth €7 mill

Exact details of the deal and an announcement are expected in the 'coming hours'.

No I was on about the amazing (in Denmark only!) A-Corn, who was you thinking of?

Back on topic, for €7m I personally would tell Inter to do one and keep Medel until either an offer comes in that matches our valuation or the Championship for Medel it is. If he didn't want to play in the Championship, like the rest of our team, he should have pulled his finger out and done better when we was in the Premier League.

In fairness to Inter Milan I would think they are paying his value, maybe a little more because of his decent world cup. I’m just glad he will be off the wage bill now and it isn’t a loan.

Regarding the above I remember reading it was 11m + add on’s and could eventually be up to 15m but it’s all paper talk, only a few people will know for sure.

People are saying the 11m wouldn’t have all been paid up and will include bits and bobs that will now never have to be paid but who is to say the 7mEuros isn’t structured the same kinds of way?

Annis, at the time of us buying medel the spanish press to a man were amazed how much we paid for him, they all thought he was worth about 5-6 million euros, you can thank malky and moody for us being financially raped on this deal.

Most will probably disagree but I don't think tan is running the football club as a business.

How can he be?

Galatasaray have entered the race to sign Cardiff City's Chilean star Gary Medel.

The 26-year-old midfielder has been already heavily linked with Italian Seri A side Inter Milan.

Now the Turkish club have made the approach for Medel who is in Chile recovering from a groin injury.

Medel, a record £11m signing from Seville in 2013, has been expected to move following Cardiff's relegation from the Premier League.

But he does not have a relegation trigger clause in his contract and Cardiff are want around £10m for the player.

Bluebirds boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed earlier in July the club have received enquiries for the player.

Medel shone as part of the defence which helped Chile to the last 16 of the World Cup, where they lost on penalties to Brazil.

He featured in midfield for Cardiff last season prompting former Cardiff player Andy Legg to say the Bluebirds played Medel out of position.

The interest in Medel comes after QPR have signed Bluebirds defender Steven Caulker for an undisclosed fee on four-year deal.

And the club have also accepted bids from Leicester City and Crystal Palace for striker Fraizer Campbell.
