Florent Malouda considering offer from Leicester City?

By Joe Fish, Reporter
Filed: Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at 00:06 UK
Leicester City have reportedly offered former Chelsea winger Florent Malouda a surprise return to England.

The 34-year-old left Stamford Bridge last summer to move to Turkish side Trabzonspor, having won the Premier League and Champions League while with the Blues.

Foxes boss Nigel Pearson is believed to be keen on adding both experience and firepower to his newly-promoted squad, with Brighton & Hove Albion forward Leanardo Ulloa and Algeria World Cup star Islam Slimani prime targets.

The Mirror understands that Malouda is also on his wishlist, and that the Frenchman received an offer from Leicester some time ago but is considering his options amid interest from across Europe.

Malouda, who made 90 appearances for France between 2004 and 2012, also earned three FA Cup winners medals during his six years at Chelsea, where he scored 45 goals in 230 games.

The Guardian report this evening that Arsenal have agreed to a £3m deal for Nice keeper David Ospina, who starred for Colombia at the World Cup.

At Nice since 2008, Ospina was relatively under the radar until this summer, where his performances en route to Colombia’s quarter final path made him one of the stand-out keepers, along with Germany’s Manuel Neuer, Mexico’s Ochoa and the US’ Tim Howard.

With Fabianski moving to Swansea on a free transfer, the Guardian say Wenger was concerned about a lack of cover for Number 1 Wojciech Szczęsny.

Unlike Fabianski, however, who was a contented Number 2, a keeper of Ospina’s quality and reputation will be expected to challenge Szczesny for the Number 1 spot, or at least keep him on his toes, with the feeling that he’d become a bit complacent over the past 2 years.

Coincidentally, he makes his move on the same day as brother-in-law James Rodriguez, who is married to Ospina’s sister.
